TWA and America West Announce Code Share Agreement
New on-line connections to 145 Cities
ST. LOUIS and PHOENIX, Nov. 15 /PRNewswire/ -- Trans World Airlines, Inc. (Amex: TWA - news) and America West Airlines, Inc. (NYSE: AWA - news) today announced a code share alliance that will provide travelers with new, on-line connections to 145 cities in the U.S., Canada, the Caribbean and Mexico.
As part of the agreement, TWA and America West will accept bookings beginning in first quarter 2001 on more than 500 flights operated by both airlines. The agreement is subject to government review and other appropriate approvals.
``America West is pleased to add TWA to its growing network of code share partners,'' said William A. Franke, America West chairman and chief executive officer. ``Through this alliance, our customers will have more choices, expanded connections and greater range of service. It will enable each airline to enhance its route network and strengthen its customer base.''
``If you lay TWA's route map over America West's, you can see the power of this partnership and its benefits,'' said Bill Compton, TWA's CEO and president. ``TWA will be able to offer its customers easier access to Mexico, the West, and Pacific Northwest and America West can offer its customers greater access to the Midwest, the Caribbean and Hawaii.''
When the code share agreement is fully implemented, customers will be able to book code share reservations and request advance seat assignments by calling either airline. At check-in, passengers will receive boarding passes on both airlines for their connecting code share itineraries. Beginning in the first quarter of 2001, members of the TWA and America West airport clubs also will enjoy reciprocal access to both airlines' airport clubs.
TWA will be able to book passengers on flights to 84 America West destinations. Thirty-three of those destinations are new to the TWA route map, including business destinations like Oakland, Calif.; Spokane, Wash.; and Tucson, Ariz., as well as leisure destinations like Aspen and Telluride, Colo., and Acapulco and Guadalajara, Mexico.
Customers of America West will be able to book flights to 61 TWA destinations. Thirty-nine of those destinations are new to the America West network, including Charlotte, N.C.; Knoxville, Tenn.; Richmond, Va.; Kona, Hawaii; and San Juan, Puerto Rico.
Earlier this year, America West and TWA launched a reciprocal frequent flyer program partnership under which America West FlightFund and TWA Aviators members earn and redeem miles on either airline.
America West, the nation's ninth-largest carrier, serves 91 destinations with more than 890 daily departures in the U.S., Canada and Mexico. With its code share partners, America West serves more than 145 destinations worldwide. America West Airlines is a wholly owned subsidiary of America West Holdings Corporation, an aviation and travel services company with 1999 sales of $2.2 billion.
TWA flies approximately two million passengers per month on approximately 800 daily flights to 100 destinations (including seasonal service) in North America, the Caribbean, Europe, and the Middle East.
