Ugliest Cockpit

Sat Nov 18, 2000 1:40 pm

This is a new topic,
What is the ugliest cockpit. I think it could be the 737-400. It looks as if it were put togather with spare left over peices!!! Tell me what you think.

I think the concorde cockpit is quite ugly and cramped from the pictures i have seen of it. I've never been inside a real one though...

I don't think so; I think it is a model of clarity. Certainly, it wouldn't be my favourite - that would have to be the 777 or 744, but for a sheer of mess and confused design, it has to be the One Eleven.

LOL! Look at thie anti-theft lock on steering wheel?!?! Could someone trying to steal the AN-2 plane? Huh? No.. it is to be lock to avoid move the plane when it is windy. Isn't that right? It looks funny!

"No.. it is to be lock to avoid move the plane when it is windy".....you mean that wind goes into the cockpit? Don't these planes have wing levelers?

The cockpit colour choice looks like baby toys, there is no air-con in the cockpit blah blah, it just sucks!

That 737 cockpit is awesome..i guess things look different to a pilot. It has nice EFIS displays for the attitude and FMA/HSI display..digital engine instruments. Good stuff. I gotta agree that the russians know how to make a crappy cockpit. Sheesh.

The russians don't suck well not that much the IL-96 has a nice ''Western'' cockpit with nice ''Western'' avionics.

I agree with you, GKirk, that the Tu-134 cockpit is one ugly mamma; this picture does it too much justice:

I must admit, however, it is the very quirkiness of Soviet and CIS aircraft that has endeared them to me. Yes, the Tu-134 is a textbook case of tackiness, but I still love the plane.

To: FaisZ:

"You mean that wind goes into the cockpit?" No. The yoke is locked. The aileron or elevator will not move. It stays level straight. When it is windy outside. The plane would move around if it is not locked it. Get it?

Those remarks about Russian planes sound quite Cold-War style, when anything Russian was hated in the West.

What, you wanna compare AN-2 cockpit with 737-400s? Just look at An-2's age category aircraft made by Western manufacturers, their cockpits won't shine with displays and all that either.

The ugliest cockpit i ever saw was a Continental MD80. The walls were an olive green color, very retro looking. But the flight from IAH-ABQ in first class was good.

Can anybody tell me why the cockpit background color of Russian aircraft used to be green/blue?

When I visited the cockpit of an SR MD11, I found it to be very ugly for its age. Paint was peeling off and unlike other cockpits I've seen in photos, it took me ages to find the instruments.
