Update On United Arab Emirites Planes In CLE

Sun Nov 19, 2000 10:10 pm

Just got back from the airport doing a dropoff - I went over to the Jet Center entrance. Guess what was there - the UAE king or whatever he goes by now has two 747s parked in CLE - they both appeared to be SP's but I can't confirm that. Parked away from those two is a 767-300 - with the same titles, all white body and the red flag on the tail. I can't believe this - what is with all the aircraft? Did the whole country and all of their 50 closest friends get to come here too? I said to myself, "Gee, I wonder where they get all this money to park these things...let alone have them" "Well, everytime I put gas in my car and turn on the heat, I'm paying for it!".

They are at the Cleveland clinic. Dont know exactly who it is but they do bring their Drs. for observation, family, and of course security detail. The clinic can be like a fortress when someone like that is here for medical care.

He has been to the clinic many times before. They also payed a family something like 1 mil just to leave their house in 2 days so he could rent it. He has a lot of his "people" over here too. I guess he figures he will be here a long time so why not bring everyone.

The planes have been there for over six months now. He has a small corporate jet too (a Falcon?).Sometimes they move them to the end of runway 18/36 when they need the extra parking on the IX ramp.

That would be really cool to see all those aircraft parked on 18. I know it would attract spotters on Brookpark who are too lazy to go around to the mail facility and the UPS ramp to get a picture of the aircraft. He just hurt himself (I dont know how...but not kidney related) so those planes probley brought more company

He Left a $300 tip (don't know what restarant)
You work for him (nurses at the Cleveland Clinic), you get a Rolex.

They went into someones house and doubled the asking price if they were out in 3 days. They did that.

He closed a furniture store and bought everything to furnish the house - this was at Beachcliff Mall.

SIGH... I gave an update about this weeks ago, guys. Here's the text...

----

The 747SP wich has been at (and in and out of) KCLE since June, 2000, is owned by The President of The United Arab Emirates and Sheik of Abu Dhabi (one person).

Sheik Zayed bin Sultan Al Nahyan came here in June for kidney dialysis and treatment so that he would be strong enough for a kidney transplant. The transplant (which did not use a U.S. donor) was completed in early September. Unfortunately, the eighty-some year old Sheik fell and broke his hip about two weeks ago and is now going to be in Cleveland for a lot longer.

The Sheik has purchased a $2.5 million home in Hunting Valley, an outer-ring suburb east of Cleveland. His contingent of about 500 family members, servants and other attendants had been living in a rented mansion in Bratenahl, a small village surrounded by Cleveland on the east side. Now they will move out to Hunting Valley.

In addition to the 747SP, the Sheik also has had a 757, a Gulfstream jet, an Ilyushin-76 cargo hauler, and an A300 cargo hauler out here. On the weekends the 747SP and 757 are often used by his family and staff to go on shopping and pleasure trips -- to the Mall of America, etc.

That's the scoop as I know it so far.

Guys, please search the bulletin board topics before you post on old news!

Oh, and cle_tim, I'm sorry to burst your bubble, but the Sheik did not shut down any stores; and he purchased the furniture at Beachwood Place.

What Plane Did Shah Fly To Cle?

Mon Nov 20, 2000 2:15 pm

Dear All,

I remember that many years ago the Shah of Iran used to fly to the Cleveland Clinic for treatment--cardiac or cancer-related, I think. Anybody know what kind of planes he used?

Sorry Redngold, I just don't frequent this board that often...and the way responces get posted, if you dont view the board 3x daily you'll miss the whole thread alltogether.

Is the I-76 that one plane thats parked halfway between the hanger where COEX does its overnight parking, and the USAir gates on the A concourse?

Go ahead and burst my bubble - this is all stuff I heard. I havent been to either of those malls and won't - I do all my shopping online, reselling some of it on ebay, and making money on top of that!

shiekh zayed bin sultan al nahyan (long live the shielh) did not break his hips , he had a kidney transplant only ,
hopefully he will be back to the united arab emirates soon (inshallah) , so stop complaining about him taking up some space at the airport , and him buying a home , and buying furniture from a store , thats lame and childish , he is a shiekh , which means , a president , and can do what ever he likes . He is a very noble man , and deserves to be trated with respect .
