FCC/FAA A&P Question.

Fri Mar 26, 1999 3:34 pm

I was hoping somebody out there might be able to shed a little light on something for me.

As some of you know I am transferring schools at the end of this semester. The school I am going to has an A&P program. I am thinking of redirecting my efforts toward that program. One thing that I am looking at doing was seeing about getting the FCC license that you need to work on Avionics. I used to do radio work in the service and this would be a logical extension of what I used to do. I have not be able to find what you would call a wealth on information on that license.

Does anybody know if it is a standard Radiomans license or something special.
Where can I find more info about it easily. I looked through Fedworld,faa.gov and fcc.gov. They where a little less then helpful.

Where can a get a copy of the certification standards for the applicable license.

Thanks guys, I appreciate all the help in advance. Now back to your regularly operating bulletain board.

Check out www.fcc.gov/wtb/commoperators/welcome.html
Look up General Radiotelephone License. A couple of years ago the FCC
stopped giving the test themselves and contracted it out. If your school has
an A/P program or avionics/electronics program they should be able to help.

Thanks for the address.

You know for an agency that has the word "Communication" in the title, it is really hard to find info on that site.

I don't know if they have a specific avionics at UAA. I know they have and A&P program and they have a Electronics program so hopefully I can somehow combine the two. It shouldn't be too much of a strech.
