Best Engine

Tue Nov 21, 2000 1:54 pm

In this generation of high technology and strong competition between manufacturers, there must be something that is far more superior that the rest. Here, I'm asking your honest opinion. 1.) Which of the following engines you think is best for the B777-200ER, the RR-Trent, the PW-4000, or the GE-90? 2.) How about for the A330-300? Is it the RR-Trent700, PW-4000, or the GE-CF6-80E1? Thank you and Happy Flying.

For most important engine, I'm going to have to say the JT8D and PT6A. They both brought mass produced economical power to a large variety of aircraft.

For the 777-200ER, the Trent

For the A330, the PW4168

No one can say the Trent ist the best on the 777-200ER! The GE90 ist very very quiet and fuel efficent more than the Pratt and the Trent. The Pratt is the most reliable of them and the Trent is the lightest of them! You have to choose what kind of plus is important for you!

Thats right, as #-B777-# put it.
There's no such thing as the best engine for
the 777 or the 330. The airlines make an
extensive study and choose what engine
suits their operations most.
I hope that sheds some light. One shouldn't
be biased towards one enigine unless all the
facts and comparisons are studied carefully.
An airline won't buy a certain type just because
the name sounds cool or the looks are nice.
Know all the facts and then say why you like this
one engine over the others.

As "Advancedkid" said
it depends on what suits the company most.
For examply Cathay Pacific have an all Rolls Royce fleet, except for the A340's.
This probably makes it easier to handle when it comes to maintanence.

I forgot something to say! In case of sound the GE90 is the reference class! UNBEATABLE  ) The GE engineers's made the GE90 sound a pleasure for 777 PAX!

Hi there,
Do you mean like music?? I really don't understand.
I have been on a GE90 powered BA 777. Nothing really
extraordinary. Engine noise is engine noise. My sister
works on them most of the time and doesn't have any special feeling towards it, and neither do her collegues.
Kindest regards,

Lufti, you said "For the A330, the PW4168". Can you tell me more about this? I ask, because technical data for engines aren't very easy to find.

hey advancedkid, it sounds like music yeah! For many people the sound of a formula one engine is noise! But i think this is music too. The differences are enormous! You can hear it! The McLaren for example sounds awful, the Honda engine sounds awesome! And there are great differnces at aircraft engines too.

I think that on the B777-200ER the Rolls Royce engine is the best and on the A330 the PW4165
