Where Will Air Canada Use Its A321s?

Wed Nov 22, 2000 2:45 am

With Air Canada having announced new orders for A340s, A319s, 767s and A321s. 717s and possibly A318s could well be ordered. It's fairly obvious to me which routes most of these aircraft types could be used on. This is mainly because the 717 (or the A318) would replace the F28/737-200 fleet, and the rest are simply more of those types already in service with AC. But the A321 is a bit more difficult for me to imagine which routes it could go on. I don't think AC has had an a/c with a capacity similar to the A321 or the 757, which would be intermediate between the 767-200 and the A320. AC is likely to have about 150-160 seats in the A321 (sorry can't exactly remember).

Might AC's A321s be used mostly on domestic routes such as YYC-YYZ, or will they be used mostly on transborder routes such as YYZ-MIA? It'd be neat to see an A321 in AC colors at an airport in Western Canada like YVR or YYC, if not YEG!

Hey Samurai 777

It would also be nice to see a 321 here in YYJ on the direct flight to YYZ.

Cheers

Sort of off topic, but I have read (can't remember where exactly) that the A318 is unlikely to be built at all by Airbus. Apparently there is concern that the fuselage is so short that there is not enough room ahead of the wing/engine to keep the plane from hitting the loading bridge at the terminal. The A321's would likely be used where passenger/cargo loads are greater than the 320's but don't justify the 767. YEG would be a good candidate.

You will probably see the A321 at all the major CDN centersI would imagine they would be use on routes like YVR-YWG, YUL, JFK(Dunno about range problems), ORD. As well as YYZ to, ORD, YHZ, YWG, JFK, And probably Saskatoon.. YYC and YEG will probably see the 321 on flights to YUL, and YHZ, Maybe ORD, and JFK too they use the 767 on flights to YYZ

A bit off topic, but how many flights is Air Canada adding to JFK? Are they starting YYZ and YUL flights there as well?

Lubicon: A318 is still on track for flight testing next year, has this changed recently? Never knew about any troubles..and there have been many orders placed. I hope they get the 717 though... a much more graceful airplane.

Samurai: good to see you back here!

The A321s would probably be used on existing routes where current A320s are being filled regularly. The operating cost of the 321 isn't much higher and they have the opportunity of carring 30-40 more revenue generating pax with no risk.

If I remember correctly, when Air Canada announced the order for A321s they said they'd use them on the US routes primarily. It is only logical they also include them on domestic runs as well. Some local enthusiasts believe they will replace several of the 767 flights (off peak hours) between Montreal & Toronto.

If Air Canada going to be adding more planes (ordering), where would all these planes go, and what new destination in CANADA or USA will they fly to..?

I know Air Canada had already serviced to DFW with an Airbus A319, and was later left DFW for Canadian Airlines take over Air Canada services...

But for my concern, will Air Canada return to DFW with a different type of plane.....?

I read the AirCanada timetable a couple of months ago and they said that they will take over Canadian's 737 service, my guess is an A319 or A320, hopefully an A321 though

I should have stated that the A318 cancellation is still just a rumour but here is the thread I saw it on.

www.planebusiness.com/ubb/Forum2/HTML/000444.html

A rumour is just that until otherwise noted so I'll leave it at that. BTW, while listening to DFW Tower a few weeks back, I heard them talking to a AC 767 (CDN Colors). Not sure where it was headed but the ATC guys commented that they usually don't see that type of A/C if DFW in AC livery. I have no idea what is was doing there as most AC flights are 737.
