You Should Think Twice About Using Airline Pillows

Wed Nov 22, 2000 8:04 am

I got this from the flyer talk forums:

According to allegations made today, the laundry company, Royal Airlines Laundry, which services about 150 carriers, has been allegedly telling some workers to simply skip the washing of blankets, pillows and headsets and to simply Repackage them as is!

What do you think?

Maybe the rude FA who refused you a pillow was doing you a favour!

Why does this not surprise me in the least? Mind you, those pillows are so small that they're almost useless anyway - I have to fold them about triple for them to be thick enough to notice! :p

Cheers

I heard that the airlines usually just throw the pillows away after the flight. I know they wash the blankets because they cost so much.

RWally, I think you may be right about the pillows, the economy ones at least. Those look disposable, business and first however, look really nice and are thick and just like a real pillow, I doubt they throw away business and first class pillows.

That's why I never sleep on aircraft

I also heard that they do not wash the headphones and just repackage it,with all the germs and stuff.

The comapny that does the washing washes the stuff for UAL, CO as well as over a hundred other major airlines both domestic and foreign. I met a union rep at EWR passing out flyers titled "this is what you get for flying United" Right below showed the photos of bacteria under a microscope! My stomach still turns at the sight of those pictures. Yuk!!!! There were similar flyers for CO warning people about the bacteria in pillows and headsets.
