787X & Other Boeing Rumours

Wed Nov 22, 2000 4:01 pm

It seems that the 787X will not be a VLA but a replacement for th 737. The 787X which will probably be released 2002-2004 with first delivery 2006/7. These are rumours and may not be true but it looks like this might be an exciting concept.

(Rumour 1) The 767 will be phased out in about 6-10 years and a smaller 777-400 will be released

(Rumour 2) The 757 will be phasesd out and won't be replaced due to the 787X covering the 757 size

Any other rumours you've heard? Please Tell.

No I don't think so. There are two projects at Boeing! The Project 20XX which will be whole new family of aircrafts! This airplane would look like we know airplanes! And the other project is the BBW Blended Body Wing! This is a commercial aircraft family looking like the B2 bomber! From a PAX capacity 200-600! Very very fuel efficient because this design has a very low aerodynamic drag! And the body will be the wing! The PAX will feel like seating in an opera hall. They plan too replace the common fleet! (type rating, ease of production, same parts and spare parts, same tooling machines, scaleable engines.........)(FLUG REVUE 2000) Whole new concept. Seems Airbus have to look for warm warm very warm clothing! hihihi

I don't think Boeing will replace its 737NG family in this decade. They are doing too well to be replaced.
I don't think also that the 757 and 767 will be replaced 'cause the investments done in this year for the new variants cannot be thrown away.
The only new projects I think Boeing will work on are the 747X and the BBW.

Yes, 737NG is a big success, but I believe Boeing plans a new narrowbody design as its successor in 10 years or so, and it looks to be a right time to start it now to be ready in time... May be it will cover both 737 and 757, or at least "new" 757 will be close to "new" 737, not "new" 767, which, in turn, looks to appear even later. I think the new narrowbody will be a bit wider (may be even 2-2-2 as it was proposed for 7J7), but still less circular than 320. Or am I now talking about a widebody   ?

I have heard about the 737 replacement from a very reputable source. It seems that the aircraft is intended to replace both the 737 and the 757 and will bring a whole new meaning to the word "efficiencey".

As previously outlined the a shrunken 777 couldn't replace the 767, be it even it's largest and longest-range one.

Could you please quote any source MattNZ?

A friend told me who knows a friend who works at Boeing but as I said they are only some rumours that they have heard.

Also the BBW when will it be released, and is there any websites or pictures of it?

#-B777-# your number of exclamation marks makes me wonder about the truth of your statement, espescially with the anti-Airbus slant.

Why would Boeing ditch the 737NG so soon though? It has been racking up big orders. A shortened 777 could not replace the 767 because the fuselage is too wide. And the 757 will remain in the lineup because its range is much greater than the 737NG...despite the 737-900 approaching its capacity.

Pray Its The 7J7

May I ask where anyone heard or read on the internet about the replacement for the 737? It would make sense to make a family that could cover the under 100-180 pax range. The A320 family has, though it still cannot touch the 757.

Personally,I see the replacement using much of the 7j7's designs, since it came so close to production. The thought of replacing the 737 in 10 years in plausible. It just seems like yesterday the 737-300 was released. And it takes about 5 years of R&D.

Considering what the 777 did to the widebody market, expect the new Boeing to set new standards for performance and comfort.

Of course you do know that Airbus will have a A320 replacement just behind it.......

I think that this person that works at Boeing might be trying to put my friend and I off course so we don't keep asking.

And bending the truth a little I think.'

Is the 747X launched by the way, there is a feature on the website on the 747 page but it doesn't say when it's being launched?
