I loved EDI when I was there in Aug 1999. It's everything and more as ContinentalEWR explained it. I also flew on the BA shuttle from LHR (coïncidentally on an old colours jet), the approach was from the south, and all around was rolling green hills, and beautiful scenery. After landing, the small domestic terminal, about 7 gates I believe, including a commuter stand, is brand new. It is relatively spacious, and brings you right out to the meeter/greeter/baggage claim.
However, outbound, I found the check-in to be a bit cramped, and BA, depsite an overwhelming per centage of the check-in counters, had relatively long queues. After being one of the first to check in at my flight, I proceeded through the security and to the departure lounge. I was surprised to see how busy the airport really was, especially how many Air France flights. Unfortunately, I was on the wrong side, so our north-east take-off had me looking away from the city centre, but nevertheless got excellent views of the Firth of Forth, and surrounding Edinburgh.
Cheers to Edinburgh, EDI, and the most hospitable people...the Scottish!
