I thought Logan closed their observation deck a few years back.

Schiphol in Amsterdam has a large one that gives you good views of pretty much every wing.

Heathrow too has a nice one on the Queen's building.

YEG!!!!
Although its barley international anymore, and the variety of aircraft through there is dimishing they still have one.

It has limited view, you can only see the far side of the ram/apron and have only half a view of the 2 runways.
You can only see the tails of the planes that are parked at the gates!

I hope with the expansion it gets better, or they even open a new one.

I have never seen an observation area at CDG, we have viewed in the past from the slip road going up to terminal 2 ( I think) next to the commuter ramp, at least we were not moved on by the gendarmerie during the last Paris show. The same also applied to the round house ( Terminal1) where you could garantied to get hassled. There is a specialized viewing area at Manchester at the runway 06 end of runway 06/24. take the first left from the Airport once on the motorway going west away from Manchester the road is the A538 toward's Wilmslow and then first left from the motorway junction, takes you straight to the viewing area, with plenty of car parking and good photography of aircraft turning of runway 24 on their way to the terminal. Allthough this will change with the opening of the new runway next year. The viewing area still survives on top of the multi story carpark. Apart from Amsterdam & Frankfurt, Paris Orly still has a pretty good viewing terrace allthough there is not the amount of traffic that there used to be

I can't recall LGA having an observation area. JFK doesn't have a designated observation area, but in Terminal One, the food court is all the way at the very top, and its a nice view of a runway n' some other stuff. Anyone correct me if I'm wrong about the observation areas, I'd truly like to know of any places where we can 'safely' look at these beautiful birds.

Montreal Dorval Int'l (YUL) Have on in it's main terminal, it is pretty nice there as you have view on 3/4 of the tow main runway (24-06) and full view of the runway 10-28 used by the turboprops. You have also a view on some gates but not much though...

NY-JFK-LGA,

Yes, LGA doesn't had a 'real' observation area, but you could see those big birds in the terminal, sometimes you could get real close to them, mainly in the Central Terminal.

Baltimore-Washington Intl. (BWI) has a two story observation deck with speakers hooked up to the frequencies, real time flight tracking and full information on how airports and planes work. It's quite exciting. BWI also has a full B737 nose and cockpit hanging from the top story (you could go in it but not anymore)

Cleveland Hopkins International Airport (KCLE) in Cleveland, OH, has a decent observation deck. It is located at the end of Concourse B. You must pass through security to get to the OD. If tighter security measures are in place, such as "ticketed passengers only," the OD is off-limits.

The OD is located over gates B12/B13, which are operated by Southwest Airlines. You have a full view of Rwys. 5R/23L and 5L/23R. You get a relatively good view of Rwy 10/28 although much more distant (and you might miss touchdowns if they're using 28.) If Rwy 18/36 ever reopens, the OD will be a great place to watch!

For more information check my (non-commercial) web page, http://www.geocities.com/bandimal/airports/kcle/spotters.html

ABQ has an inside observation deck between the A and B gates. You can miss it. Its great for checking out planes, but not very good for taking pictures. If you want to take pictures go downstairs behind the Pizza Place. There is also an Aircraft Viewing area at the beginning of the runway where you can get some great landing shots and if you can get your lens through the chain link fence you can get some good pics as the planes take off. If you are lucky and can get on Kirtland Air Force Base, there are some great, I mean excellent spots. Just beware of the Viewing Area at night. A few drug deals go down up there. And it also becomes the make out area  . So techinically I can say that i take my g/f spotting.

RE:Does HKG Have One?

Tue Nov 28, 2000 2:47 am

DUS- The airport of the town I usually live in had a good one. But they`re rebuilding the terminal because of the fire in 96. I don´t know if the new one will have something comparable. As I´m currently studying in Hong Kong I would like to know if HKG has one. Couldn`t check it out, because it's expensive to get there

My local airport - MEL (tullamarine) - has a number of points to view from, but non of them overly spectacular.

There is an obs deck between the International and QF domestic terminals, but the only thing you see are the terminals and a bit of Rwy 09/27. There are two designated carparks on the perimeter located under the northern approach (about 1km from threshhold) and 300m to the west of Rwy 16/34 (SSW of the intersection).

There is also a spot you can park under both the eastern and the southern approaches. Both are not designated car parks and both are about 300-400m from the threshhold. The southern approach is one of my favourite photographing spots, but unforutunately my equipment is not good enough to get my photo's on airliners.net

Changi (SIN) has a small, but nice one, located at the upper floor in T2.
My homeairport HAJ (Hannover,GER) has a large one between Terminal A and Terminal B. From there you can also see the traffic at Terminal C. For the fans of Bizz-jets and "the big Russians": You should come to HAJ. We have during the Cebit computer exhibition many bizz-jets here (>100) and from the observation deck you can see them very close. And for the fans of Russian airliners: HAJ is the german, if not the west-european hub for the airlines of East-Europe and the Russian-Republics. Lot of "exotic" Tupolevs, Yaks, etc. .

Regards,
Chris

PS:When you are in SYD, you should try Gate 40 at the Ansett domestic terminal.

Perth has one in the international terminal, and the Qantas and Ansett domestic terminals also offer views from the departure lounge(where the public have acces to as well).
Also Bergen Airport has its rooftop car park as an observation area, although it is a small airport you can see al movements and the runway.
