Evidence Of Possible 747 For FedEx: The 747x?

Comments?

What are the chances of the 747x even being built? It seems that the A3xx has been judged by every carrier so far to be a superior solution. And it would seem that the chances for the 747x get dimmer with every A3xx order. I would have thought that at least one carrier would order a 747x. It will be sad to see the 747 displaced as what most consider the most prestigious passanger aircraft, but it cannot be denied that maybe Airbus took the chances and is well on the way to winning that title. What are the chances that Boeing would now consider something entirely new to compete with A3xx?

Don't worry about Boeing- they'll be fine. Airbus has been pushing A3XX for a long time and Boeing has only just begun pitching their new version in reaction to Airbus 3XX. I really doubt Airbus' projected needs of VLA. Seeing that airlines are moving towards jets with smaller pax capacity, there aren't too many routes that warrant a plane size of A3XX on a consistent basis- for now at least. And please don't tell me that A3XX only needs to fill 60 or 70% of the seats to turn a profit. If they know they can only fill 65% of the seats, they'll put a 747 or 777 and push the load factor up to 80+ to make wads of cash. And I wonder if A3XX has the range to compete with 747X. I don't know the exact spec but I don't think it comes close.

All in all, Boeing will do fine. A3XX is enjoying the spotlight because it the new 'in' thing. A3XX will sell well and so will 747X as airlines look to replace 744 with airplanes with similar pax capacity.

It just seems that the 747x is losing every cometition. I thought it would do better given the marketing pitch initially laid out (fleet commonality, more effecient, etc.) but apparently the airlines have judged that it is not. I'm starting to wonder if it will get any orders. Or will FedEx get one and the 747x will only be a cargo plane? That would be ashamed that the symbol of passanger aviation would then be eclipsed by the A3xx. But you have to give Airbus credit for the bold move to design something new as opposed to the 747 update. Remember that it was Boeing that was bold with the 747 when it first came out. If Airbus wins with the A3xx, it is because of a bold vision. I just hoope that Boeing can be as bold. Maybe if they did not scrap earlier plans for the 747-500 or 747-600 as I have read elsewhere they would not have this problem of now trying to bring out the 747X. It maybe too little too late. If I remember, the 745 and 746 were proposed earlier in the early 90s and had they made those, they could have had a big head start and have possibley delivered by now. This might have prevented the A3xx from getting any root. Thoughts?

Airbus has learned from Boeing. Boeing has long used 747 as leverage when dealing with Airlines. Airbus is doing the same thing. Even if Boeing had launched 747X earlier, Airbus still would have gone ahead. 747 is a platform in its mature stage- there would have to be whole new platform to satisfy the market. Good for Airbus for realizing.

FedEx: The 747x?

Do you think FedEx will buy one? What are the pros and cons of going with the 747x or A3xx as it relates to carrying cargo?
