Twa 727 Deliveries

Tue Mar 30, 1999 5:38 am

A friend of mine just flew a TWA 727-200 and wanted to know how old it was. I told him to look at the N-number but he forgot. So, for a ballpark figure, does anyone know the range of years in which TWA received their 727s?

Don't quote me on the earlier date but between 1962 and 1984. The last ones where freighters for Fed-Ex.

Most of the TWA 727 were produced between 1970 and 1980. The ones I found were, 1970,71,74,79,80. Although I don't know if these 722's operated with onather airline before coming over to TWA.

Of the 727s that TWA is still flying. 4 were deilvered in 1971, 2 in 1974, 7 in 1979, and 8 in 1980. IIRC they are all scheduled for retirement by the end if this year.

So this means that the youngest one is 19 years old. The youngest one at American is nearly 18 years old.

Thanks for the info.

No wonder TWA is making such a big deal of their fleet replacement program. I saw a couple TV advertisements recently where they really tried to emphasize that they would be getting "A new plane delivered every 10 days".
