Currently the intake is 7 aircraft per month and should be increased to 8 per month in H2 2017. Note that MSN 156, 166, 171, 194 and 222 won't be built. Also, MSN 118 and 146 have yet to enter final assembly. And note that as MSN 216 is the first ULR model, it may be out of sequence.

Final assembly intake is 7 per month, pre-FAL is already at 8 per month.

The working group developed a portable robotic repair jet that uses water mixed with an abrasive to remove up to 500 sq. cm. of damaged material for replacement with new carbon fibre. The replacement composite material is cured on site – at an airport or maintenance centre, for example – eliminating the need for the large autoclave traditionally employed in the manufacture of composites.

Detecting and repairing impacts on carbon fibre is a whole different ball game from traditional aluminium aircraft structures. Because plastic can bend back to its original shape after being deformed as compared to aluminium (or metal in general) anytime there is a suspected impact on the skin of a composite aircraft it must be scanned with laser imaging tools to determine if there has been damage to the laminates. This makes it much more expensive and time consuming. Anything that can save time is a must for these aircraft.

Interesting tidbits of information from Asiana's latest quarterly results out last week:
> expects delivery of 4x A359s this year (up to incl. MSN 176)
> 4x A359s (C28W36Y247) are replacing on a one-for-one basis 2x 747 Combis (F10C24Y230) + 2x 772ERs (C28Y272)
> The first combi (HL7414) has already left the fleet as the first A359 arrived (getting converted to full cargo in TLV)

So (1) it looks like Airbus could be, internally at least, looking to deliver upwards of 90 A350s this year while publicly saying it is aiming for 80 and (2) Asiana is pretty much replacing capacity for capacity with the first 4 deliveries of A359s (no growth in premium, slight in growth in Y vs. the combi)

Interesting, so there is a chance that both Air China and Malaysian have their first A359 delivered this year.

Malaysian expecting 2x this year and Air China's latest quarterly filing says it still expects 1x this year.

Looking back at the first flight of MSN 76, it seems the tail fin is not fully painted. This means MSN 76 will require a small paint retouch.
