How Do You Find Emirates?

Fri Dec 01, 2000 11:44 pm

I am, as my user name suggests a fan of Emirates Airlines of Dubai. They are truly amazing, with their spohisticated inflight entertainment systems and their multinational cabin crew. They have won more awards than I could be bothered to remember.Anyway, if you have any opinions on this great airline, I would love to hear from you.

Hi there!

I'm sorry to disappoint you - but I have recently flown with Emirates from the UK to Singapore via Dubai.

I was not really all that impressed - the service was awful. During the whole of the two flights only one round of drinks were offered to the passengers and the meal was served just luke warm. The flight attendants are quite friendly, but only just - it seemed as though they were all having PMS or something - sorry!

I must say that the flights were on time though, although I'm sure we would all expect that from an airline with an apparent good reputation.

The A330-200 is very cramped with 2-4-2 across. I much preferred the B777-300, although alot of window seats stare into the side panels of the cabin and don't actually have a window next to them at all!
Terrible leg room and during the flight passengers also made complaints about the PTV 'touchscreen' system not working how it should. An apology was made by the Senior Flight Steward over the PA, but the problem was never sorted out during the flight. Also, the movies were quite old, not really the latest Blockbuster's except for "The Perfect Storm", which was about 3 weeks old at the time when I travelled.

If I had my choice I would most certainly fly with Singapore Airlines next time - which I'm already planning to do!

Sorry, but they're won't be another EK flight for me for a very long time, if ever again, if I can help it.

Hope this helps you with your thoughts!

Regards,

Paul - mail@airsnaps.com

The 2-4-2 configuration on the Airbus widebodies is probably the most comfortable configuration around in coach. How on earth is the 3-4-3 or 2-5-2 on 777s better?

Airsnaps is just being biased, Emirates if by far one of the best airlines and being so does not necessarily mean that youll always get picture perfect images like from ad campaigns and crew with pasted smiles, even the likes of Singapore airlines have flaws, friends of mine who flew SQ frequently from Dubai to Karachi said the crew were quite rude and the service so-so, and surprisingly not many people i know choose to fly Singapore airlines on their trips, Thai airways seems to be the preferred choice with them and ofcourse Emirates tops the list for travel to the Middle East and Europe, on the Karachi-Dubai route for example the leading European airlines Lufthansa,KLM and Air France lost to Emirates and so did Singapore airlines and Karachi-London is also dominated by Emirates, yes i myself have experienced moody crew on Emirates and meals that couldve been better, but that does not mean that Emirates bad, heck i could say the same for Swissair and British airways and Emirates is a thousand times better than them.

I love Emirates! I flew once with them. I know a few pilots from Austria who fly there. Good Airline. Good money. Good services.
Maybe I try to work for them one day!

See ya in Dubai!

Hi Im also a big fan of Emirates. But I live here in Puerto Rico so I dont have the opportunity to travel to the middle east. Im also a huge fan of Saudi Araibian and one of my wishes is to travel onboard Saudi,Emirates,Gulf Air,Kuwait Airways or Iran Air. So lucky those who could fly in those airlines.

Well might not sound so but the 2-4-2 seating in the A330 is a little cramped. Being from Karachi, its just a given that i have flown Emirates...recently i flew with them on KHI-DXB(A300-600) and DXB-LGW(A330). I was unfortunate that i ended up on a A300 from KHI to DXB missing out on the B777 that usually operates on this route. I must say something that i have noticed recently is that all leading airlines have somewhat standardised their economy classes.... travel Virgin,EK,SR or any other and its pretty much the same. I found Emirates no better or worse then say Kuwait airways, whom i also flew quite recently. No doubt that Emirates is a good airline, not only in my opinion but also the thousands of people who tell me about them. Emirates dominates quite a big chunk of west-bound airtravel from Pakistan, specially routes like Karachi-Dubai and Karachi-London as pointed out by Airmale.
NO doubt that Emirates is a little too over rated, thier is a little too much hype about it. Alot of people when they travel EK tend to get dissapointed not because of bad service but rather service that did not live up to the extra high standards that they have been led to believe.

I once flew Emirates on BEY-DXB-BEY and I had a wonderful experience. Whoever says that EK is bad is simply tasteless

I recently flew Emirates from Melbourne - Singapore - Colombo - Dubi - London, i found the first leg extremly enjoyable as i was up-graded to Buissness class, which although not as good as Cathay Pacific's it's not bad at all. For the rest of my LONG jorney i was in coach. Even though i was in the front row in first a 777-200 and then there new 777-300 from Dubi - London i didn't find the experiance all that. This may have been due to the fact that Dubi has got to be one of the worst airports in the world and that i had just come from Buissness class. But i have to agree i think EK is a bit over rated.

I have had mixed experiences aboard Emirates. It really does depend on the day. Remember, cabin crew are human like us and are prone to bad days! I did have a remarkably good flight aboard Emirates about 12 months ago aboard one of their then brand new A330-200 aircraft. I was very impressed. The seat was very comfortable, entertainment good (although I hated having the PTV in the back in Business Class), food excellent and a freindly crew with a good sense of humour. I certainly prefer the A330 to the 777s - especially the decor. Emirates are good but I still prefer Singapore Airlines.
Cheers!

I have used Emirates several times from England to Thailand (via DXB of course).
They were the first scheduled airline that I ever used and I was very impressed with the difference between them and the charter companies I had previously flown with. Now after using other scheduled services I still find Emirates to be a very high standard in terms of reliability, safety, service and food.
In my job I have to deal with members of the public and I realise that the cabin crew cannot be 100% pleasant 100% of the time. Only a robot could do that. If somebody is polite then you are polite back to them. It is extremely difficult to to smile and be helpful to an obnoxious passenger.....believe me!
Emirates also seem to offer excellent value for money. A return journey from MAN to BKK is usually between 350 and 500 GBP.....far cheaper than many inferior airlines.
On the whole, I think that Emirates deserves it's good reputation but as with any company there is always room for improvement.

i think Emirates deserves the high rating .
i have flown London(LHR) to Dubai(DXB) on British airways , Royal Brunie and EMirates . i Have found that Emirates was the best . Food , entertaiment and reliability is excellent .i was once upgraded to buisness class which was a very enjoyable and certainley an unforgetable experiance .
The new Dubai internatrional airport is amazing .
personally , i found emirates is far better than British airways , United and airfrance .

Thank You for you response. But, I would like to point out that the person who says that Dubai is one of the worst airports in the world does not know what he is talking about.Everybody knows that Dubai is one of the best airports in the world, with it's great duty free and architecture. He is probably referring to the old airport, which as I can myself attest, was very crowded in it's last year of it's operation. And I do agree that sometimes Emirates crew can make a mess of things... The first time I flew with them, I was very impressed by their service and perks, but disappointed when they ignored a passenger when his tv was'nt working. But there are some very sweet cabin crew on Emirates as well.. especially the Aussies. But I must say, my
best experiences with cabin crew have been on British Airways... they can be amazing.

The last time I flew with Emirates they had still smokers on board. So if you smoke then Emirates will be a great choice. But for me as a non-smoker, I will never fly with them. I had flights Frankfurt - Dubai - Hong Kong - Bangkok - Dubai - Frankfurt and every time next to smoking area ...

The F/A in Frankfurt allowed a woman to change her seat in order to sit next to her husband/friend (at that time boarding was complete and all passengers were sitting). Then another woman wanted to change, and then ... Very soon more and more passengers were standing and walking to another seat. And the result: over 15 min delay.

My experience is that Emirates is very overated. The crew were one of the rudest I have every experienced. The only way to describe the unsmiling crew is robots with wigs. on my 4 flights FRA-DXB-BOM-DXB-FRA, the crew did not smile once. They all seemed extremly frustrated. The seats were awful...(I was in Business) on two of the flights the PTV were messed up.. Sound of channel 4 would be heard on channel 5 while the picture would show channle 5! The food was GOOD... I have to give them credit for that. I realize that it maybe my luck... I have heard extremly bad things about Gulf Air (which I flew 4 months before Emirates) and I extremly enjoyed the flights!! They were far superior than Emirates.. This is my oppionion and do not expect people to agree with me but this is what I have experienced. I have experienced bad flights with leading airlines likie Singapore and Virgin but I have flown good ones with them two.. On Emiartes I never experienced a good one!
