Sretched 747

Tue Mar 30, 1999 8:19 am

There was some discussion on the forum recently about Boeing planning to produce a stretched 747(500?). Does anyone know if this is a definate go ahead or is this still in the planning stages. Also what airlines would most likely order it? Chris.

I have not herd of a "definite" go ahead for a stretched 747, only that the project is being reviewed and there should be a decision regarding it soon - if Boeing wants to, they can make it, work on the design has been going on for a wile.

A couple days ago, I posted a comment from Boeing's CEO that Boeing would not be building a double decker aircraft to compete with the A3xx, as Mirage pointed out Boeing already has the current 747 to use.

I personally would like to see Boeing go ahead with a stretched 747-500, the definite answer should be coming out soon.

The airlines that would order it are United, Northwest, British Airways, Cathay Pacific, Qantas, All Nippon Airways, Japan Air Lines and Qantas to start.
