Virgin Close To Six Plane A3XX Order

Sat Dec 02, 2000 4:08 am

Virgin Atlantic is close to ordering 6 A3XXs. The current number of A3XX orders stands at 44. This could trigger the super jumbos's launch before the end of the year  ! The order will contain 6 firm orders and 6 options. “We are in the final throes of negotiations,” Branson told the Daily in an interview this week.

Seems already that Airbus would be in trouble if they wouldn´t build the A3XX....
The market wants it and I´m shure they will launch it. Hopefully the timetable won´t be affected too much ( in service 2005 ).

The livery also looks awsome.

Well it's been in the rumor pipeline for some time, so it was only a matter of time before it was confirmed (as with the QANTAS order).

If ILFC and Emirates do decide to exchange options for firm orders or add to the orders thereof, the A3XX program could be triggered into an early launch.

Fantastic news I must say. Richard's always been a forward thinker and I've admired his style for quite some time. Those capacity issues he mentions in the article would be appeased quite well, and the gym/casino is definately in line with Richard's usual thinking, I mean they've got the bar and massages already. Probably the A3XX would go on the LHR-JFK route first, that's a really popular route, but load factors out of LAX and SFO are very high as well I've heard.

Oh look! Singapore buys A3XX, now Virgin does. "A match made in heaven!" Richard Branson December 1999.

I suppose Virgin will be introducing all the frills they are well-known for. Good for them! Good for SIA!!

I would like to know what Sir Richard is going to do with all of these airplanes!!!

By 2004 he should have

11 747-200s
13 747-400s
11A340-300s
10 A340-600s

With 6 A3XXs on the way!

Overcapacity + not enough demand = bankruptcy

I guess that Branson is that kind of person who will always find on how to use his property.
He can open new routes, he can lease them...

I'm sure that Virgin won't go bancrupt!

B777-200LR, when this order is confirmed they will have 50. They have 44 now because Emirates added 2. There is also talk about ILFC increasing their order!

OH-LGA,
I'm sorry mate, but are your "rose tinted" sunglasses for sale?? (Casino/gym) GET A GRIP MAN !!
As has been said before, this will be a "mass" people carrier, not a luxury liner.
The A3xxx will HAVE to make money.
This will not happen with people wandering around using the gym and casino etc.
If the purchasing airlines decide to use these "facilities"......OHHHHHHH,,,,,,your gonna PAYYYY!!
3-4-3 config....an INCH or two more legroom...and that will be IT!!!
As much as we all "love" Branson,.....he will not be running a charity.THIS IS BUSINESS!!!!

I'm not sure how you count the launch orders so far, but I have:

10 to Air France
7 to Emirates
5 to ILFC
10 to Singapore
12 to Qantas
---
44 total. If ILFC or Emirates increase their order, or Virgin/Cathay buy more, the total will increase. 44 is, however, already enough for industrial launch.

Well, Virgin were always very partial towards the A3XX, so that makes sense...

Sir Richard has personally stated that he will not let any of his companies go into bankrupcy (this is why Virgin Express is still with us). Also, as another thread mentioned, Virgin already has a network that could do with a larger fleet. And with intentions to begin flights to Australia and Canada, new aircraft definitely wont go amis. Make no mistakes, the demand is definitely there...

On the subject of the gyms/casino/McDonalds/whatever the heck else people think can be put in, good on them. An airline that offers better services and facilites than another is bound to be more popular. However, remember some things. Virgin already does (or soon will do) casinos through the inflight entertainment system. Also, whilst the lower deck is pretty huge, remember that it has to be able to hold 555 people's luggage. Also, freight earns a huge ammount more profit for an airline than passangers. That being said, some form of exercise room would be very marketable, especially in light of the growing scare over DVT (Deep Vein Thrombosis). And it would definitely be better to have a small room dedicated to duty free, rather than clog up the aisles and galleys with more trolleys.

Whatever happens, I am looking forward to the A3XX, it will be a fun one to travel on...
