Flying Car!

Tue Mar 30, 1999 9:49 am

I was watching TV the other day and I saw a program stating that the flying car had been invented. It is powered by two small engines, like learjet engines, and equipped with an advanced GPS. They guy who built it says that it flies perfectly, and hopes to replace the airline industry with this more "convenient" way of travel. He plans to have it on the market by 2001, with an introductory price of $145,000.
This has got me worried. Mainly because think of how many people who work for airlines or airports will be out of jobs. And if a person wants to be a pilot, it will not be possible. What is everyone's opinion of the flying car?

This reminds me a similar idea from the 50's or 60's. Someone build a flying car and it was seen like a big revolution. Everybody could leave home to working place in his flying car and then park it as any other common car.
Ofcourse this would be a dangerous mess in our skies and the subject was forgoten.
I don't know what are the operating demands to this new flying car, if it can be used only in airports or small fields or whatever, but I don't think it's as a pratical idea.

Don't worry Northwest, the airline industry is not about to be replaced by a flying car. Especially if no one can afford it! Could you afford a car with a $145,000 price tag? And with millions of people working for the airline industry, you can bet that there will be people protesting the flying car. And even if this hypothetical flying car catches on, people will still need a kind of bus for the air, thus the airline. So even if it becomes popular, which is unlikely, the airline will still be around.
It sounds to me like you have been watching Back to the Future Part 2, believe me, it won't happen anytime soon.

An even if they could beild a cheap one can you imagine the number of midairs you are going to have with everybody having one of these cars.

People allready complain that the airspace is too crowded allready.

I thing I know the car your talking about. The designer has been talking about it for most of a decade at least.
