Alaska Airlines B742 Fake Pic

Tue Mar 30, 1999 10:21 am

Hey guys, I'm like 99% sure this is fake, but I know there could always be some exception that I didn't hear of, so I just wanted to make sure it is a fake. Can anyone confirm my assumtions or prove them to be wrong?

Well, I just did a search on the N#. N93245 doesn't exist, but even though labeled that, it is N932AS, which is an Alaska MD-82. Now I know its gotta be fake.

I just got done sending in the information in on this one on the "correct" tab. I got the same results as Flyf15 did when I ran the Reg #s. It's a good fake, I got to admit!

It's one of Mike McLaughlin's digitally enhanced photos - you can even see his copyright note in the bottom left corner. Other photo's he's modified include United 777-200 in old colors and Delta L1011 in new colors.

You can see them at http://www.geocities.com/~mikephotos and click on Digitally Enhanced.

As a former Alaska Airlines employee I can garentee that it is a fake. Hawaiian717 has the address of the maker.

The Largest thing that Alaska Airlines ever operated was some Boeing 707's that where leased in when they first did russian far east charters way back in the early 1970's.

I kind of like the TWA 777-300 and I like the metrojet 737-300 "Proposed scheme"!

I think the Alaska 747 looks great! It would be nice if it were real, wouldn't it?

It sure would be nice if it was real. Maybe Alaska can open up some routes to the Pacific Rim. I think it would work for them because of all the connecting flight they would have for passengers coming from the Orient.

For a while in the mid-1990's there was serious talk of them picking up a 757 to cover the routes they had to the Russian Far East. Boeing still offers the 757 as a combi(Only one has been sold in Nepal). A combi 757 would have had longer legs then the MD-80 and would be able to handle a much larger cargo load with the about the same number of passengers as the MD-80.

The whole thing is moot now that Alaska abandoned it's russian operations and handed them over to Reeve Aleutian.

General rule of thumb on Alaska Airlines tail numbers. They are all three digit numbers.
700 series tail numbers are assigned to their 737's
900 series tail numbers are assigned to their MD-80's

N74-AS are assigned to 737-200QC's

There are a couple of exceptions...For example N753AS was a 727-100 that was the last 727 that Alaska airlines ever flew. It also dosn't take into account any leased in aircraft(Short Term)

When We looked at the FID's down at the bagwell in ANC to determine what type of airplane we where getting that was the system we used to determine the equiptment we needed. This was in 1994 so it doesn't take in account any changes in numbering that might occur with the NG aircraft that they are getting.

Hey CX747,

I would guess that since Alaska codeshares with NW, they aren't palnning on doing any Pacific routes in the future. They would be going head to head against NW in cities like ANC, SEA, and SFO for routes to Asia.

Of coarse I wouldn't mind taking a Alaska flight to back to the states :-)
