Drinking Age On International Flights

Sun Dec 03, 2000 4:34 pm

What is the legal drinking age for US carriers on overseas flights? The reason I ask is because I will be taking DFW-zRH on AA Dec. 30, with my girlfriend. I was served on United, LAX-HKG this summer, but I don't know what the laws are actually.

I started asking for drinks on flights when I was 17, and I have never been carded once since then.

Legally, it is 21. However, most FA's will be willing to bring you drinks just as long as you're nice.

Well, I dont know about the US, but I have not had problems with alcohol being served for as long as I can remember (which is a long time). In New Zealand, its the SALE of liqour act, and as they are not really selling it to you, there is nothing to stop them from giving it to young people. Really, discretion should be used. Drunken passangers should NEVER EVER be served alcohol. NEVER!

Normally, it´s 21, cause the laws of the registration state of the airplane are counting, regardless over wich country your are flying!
If you don´t get something to drink on the flight, you´ll get enough in Europe!!!!!

Best regards, Benjamin!

Choose a European airline. Swiss drinking age for example is 16 for beer and wine, 18 for liquors; you will get it on Swissair.

In most of Canada it is 19 or in Quebec it is 18 and Air Canada has never asked for ID from anyone I know!

Thanks for the info. I've been wondering about the same question myslef. I'll be on US Airways in January (Next month already!) going over and in May on the way back. But I'll be 21 in May so that part doesn't doesn't matter. I'll just be nice and ask and not dress like a white trash scurve(sp?) on the flights.
