AA Recieves DOT Authorization To Fly JFK-GIG

Thu Dec 07, 2000 1:10 am

I quite did not understand that. They already fly this route in a daily basis with a 767-200. Will they offer a second daily flight. I haven´t seen anything about that.
What´s up with that?

AA is actually recieving slots to operate New York to Rio de Janeiro because they transferred that flight to Miami and there are now two daily Miami-Rio flights. I think this is somewhat unfair because they already had the JFK-GIG rights but they just gave them away to MIA and should nto be favored over United and Continental.

Ishky, you're simply wrong.

AA transferred its MCO(Orlando)-Rio authorities to Miami, NOT JFK.

American currently actually does serve New York-Rio, but are transferring those flights to Miami and are now requesting slots again for the New York route.

AA never operated Orlando-Rio, and as you see on theire schedule, MIA-GIG goes from one daily 763 to two dailies in the spring and JFK-GIG is gone.

Actually AA did operate 4 weekly flights from MCO-GRU-GIG route in the end of summer 2000. I think these slots were transferred to MIA-GIG route that now is served with daily flights plus the 4 weekly that were in the MCO route.
AA current fly JFK-GIG daily.

Dellatorre is correct.
When AA was last given 7 extra slots, they operated an additional 3 MIA flighs, plus the 4 MCO flights. Later the MCO flights switched to MIA.

The JFK flights are completely separate.

Ishky15,

Looking at AA skeds for spring, I don't show AA flights JFK-GIG as "gone". I've checked every month next year and flights are operating as usual with B767-200.

Not exactly correct. When AA operated the 4 weekly MCO-GRU flights, they also operated 3 additional weekly DFW-GRU flights. When the MCO flights were stopped, those frequencies were moved to MIA for 4 additional weekly MIA-GIG flights. AA still operates those 3 additional frequencies DFW-GRU. In summary, DFW-GRU now has 10 weekly flights and MIA-GIG currently has 11 weekly flights.
