AA,TW And DL MD-80, 2-3 Or 3-2?

Sat Dec 09, 2000 9:57 am

I noticed that AA and DL have the 2-3 configuration differently. If looking towards the back of the aircraft, Delta has 2-3 (2 on the left side and 3 on the right side) AA has the opposite, 3-2. and TWA has 3-2 (3 on the left and 2 on the right.) Is this the difference between an 82/83 and an 88?

Delta has 3-2 unless Delta's changed theirs since 2 years ago when I last flew on an MD-88. Don't know about TWA, while I think American is 2-3

Normally seating configuration is described looking toward the front of the aircraft. Delta's MD-88s are 3 on the left and 2 on the right facing forward. Alaska's MD-80s are this way also. All the other MD-80s I've flown on had two on the left and three on the right when facing forward.

The reason for the 3-2 config. is so a full width galley can be used in the back.
This plane is built to withstand anything... except a bad pilot.

TWA flies both 2-3 and 3-2 depending on the individual aircraft.

Most TWA ordered aircraft are 2-3 looking from the tail towards the nose A C - DEF however about 27 planes are configured ABC-D F. Delta also has a few hybrids that differ from the rest of the fleet. I do not know about any other carriers MD80 seating differences..

Delta's MD-88's are 3-2 and MD-90's are 2-3.

I flew TWA on March 31, 1998 from DFW to JFK a layover in New Orleans, LA (MSY). the plane is configured as 2-3 as I was on board TWA #708. All MD80s must have same configuration as shown on: Boeing Home Page.. !!

I can assure you the 2-3 and 3-2 variants are customer options from boeing. Your claim is unfounded and incorrect.

Heres what the MD-80's/MD-82's/MD-83's, AND MD-88's were like:

Continental: 2-3

Delta: 2-3

Trans World (TWA) 2-3

TWA had the most spacious, and comfortable MD-80's!!!!!

Some of the TWA MD83's leased in in 1996-1998 (not delivered new) were in the 3-2 config. If you want tail #s try the yahoo boards as some like Life Platinium known the numbers off the top of his head. On monday I can call and get the information as well.

The rest of TWAs fleet as stated above is 2-3.

Delta has a handful of MD90 and MD88 aircraft in 2-3 configs. The rest of the MD88 are in 3-2.

Really Baec,

Well read my post and yours.. You are wrong.. If you would like to look up the document that covers the seating on the MD80 and MD90 (And DC-9, 717, D9A, C-9B) etc look up A6WE type certificate revision 26 dated 12/4/2000 from the FAA/DOT website.

Further, If all MD80s are configured the same then how do AA, AS, DL, TW all fly them with the seating on both sides 3-2 and 2-3. Let's not forget Midwest Express with 2-2!

Nuff said, I think you better grow up...
