FOR RELEASE: Thursday, Nov. 30, 2000

FORT WORTH, Texas -- American Eagle, the regional affiliate of American Airlines, will launch regional jet service at Ronald Reagan Washington National Airport on Jan. 4. The airline will offer four daily round trips between Washington and Columbus, Ohio and three daily round trips between Washington and Toronto. American Eagle will operate both routes with 37-seat Embraer ERJ-135 regional jets.

"Customers have responded very favorably wherever we have introduced our regional jets," said Tom Bacon, American Eagle’s senior vice president for marketing and planning. "We look forward to bringing regional jet service to the Nation’s Capital." American Eagle has been operating regional jets since May 1998 and now uses the aircraft to serve more than 45 cities from its hubs at Boston, Chicago, Dallas/Fort Worth, and New York’s Kennedy (JFK) and LaGuardia Airports.

American Eagle has served National Airport for many years and now offers 11 daily round trips to JFK with 34-seat Saab 340B turboprop aircraft.

From Columbus, the airline now offers year-round regional jet service to Boston, Chicago and LaGuardia and seasonal service to JFK and Miami. It also operates a regional jet maintenance facility at Columbus.

From Toronto, American Eagle operates regional jet service to Boston.

With a combined fleet of more than 270 jet and turboprop aircraft, American Eagle and its wholly owned Business Express Airlines affiliate offer more than 1,700 daily flights to nearly 140 cities throughout the United States, Canada, The Bahamas and the Caribbean.

With the increased presence of American Eagle in Columbus, maybe American Airlines will add some more mainstream flights, possibly to SJC?
