Olimpic Airways

Hi-
Is Olympic Airways still operating? And if it is why don't the change their "stuck in the 70-80's" colour scheme and get a new one? I think they have the ugliest paint scheme around. It's a Greek airline, right?

Yes, Olympic Airways is still in operation. In fact they are set to receive their 747-200 replacements (A340s) later this year. Their narrow-bodied fleet is also being renewed with the acquisition of 737-700/800s.

Ooooh come on! What do you have against the Greek?
Olympic's livery is not ugly at all.

Yes, they still operate. They are deferring the delivery of the new B737-800's because of management problems, there is an article about that in the last Flight magazine. They will get B737-800's and A340's.

Wasn't Olympic doing poorly a little while ago?? Did they ever receive the government cash from the EU to help with operations?

Olympic Airways have been receiving a pretty bad press lately in Greece. This is mainly due to bad management. There are some who would go as far as to say the management at Olympic are corrupt.

There have been rumours that Olympic will be cutting their Australian routes soon, due to lack of demand. Mind you these rumours have been around for quite a while now.

It is a shame they are in a bit of a mess at the moment. Olympic will allways hold a special place in my heart. One of my first ever flights was on an Olympic Boeing 707 back in the '70s. They are only a shadow of their former self now, but they are still one of the safest airlines in the world. I spoke to an Olympic pilot on the internet somewhere and he told me a lot about Olympic

Thanks.

Is Olympic still operating any 727s or have they all been retired?

Was Olympic owned by Aristotle Onassis at one time. Someone told me they were.
