Oh, we had a blast yesterday.
I really liked the fact we can finally see those airliners used for international flights literally "close up," especially the A340-300 of SQ and LH. Gawd, whoever said the CFM56 engines of those planes look like glorified APU's weren't kidding.
And yes, it really IS "spotters' heaven" at the new terminals. Seeing planes various planes taxiing around looks really good, that's to be sure.
One nice thing about the new terminal is that you no longer have a big traffic jam of planes waiting for an open gate. You get occasional traffic jams but that's because at times you get planes entering and leaving the A and G gates simultaneously. That was quite a sight for a BA and VS 747-400 to park at the gate almost the same time. By the way, it was a bit unusual that the VS 744 took off from Runway 1R instead of 28R.
One thing I did notice was that a number of 744's parked at the gates only used one jetwalk (the JL and CI 744's were a good example). You'd think they use both jetwalks to get people off the plane faster.
All in all, a darned fun day! We need to do this again soon, especially if we can get a tour of a DL 767-400.
