"even though their pilots were idiots in the Taiwan accident"
I beg your pardon, but how can you label them as idiots. The whether, while very bad, was still within the limits, so they had no reason to not depart. They were fooled by the fact that the inactive runway had some of its lighting illuminated, and because of the heavy rain, they could see this lighting, but not that of the correct runway. An aircraft crash is never of a single cause, and of every major crash of recent time, there is not one where the pilot could be labelled as 'idiot'. Sure, pilots make mistakes, but then we all do. That doesn't make us idiots. It makes us human.
Now Surf, if you feel you can do a better job than SIA's highly trained pilots in guiding an aircraft onto a runway from a vantage point three storeys in the air, all the while in atrocious conditions, and with runway lights that should not be illuminated, illuminated, then you can criticise them. But until you can prove you can, don't make 'idiotic' comments.
