Fuel Tanks

Sat Dec 16, 2000 7:05 am

How come there arent external fuel tanks on airliners? The Lear 31 or 35 has them and the Westwind has them, but no major commercial airliner has them. They would be good on a DC-9/MD-80/717.

Did you dream up this question in a dream? I guess the answer is it will be too heavy. and creates too much drag. Only smaller airplanes have them. I have never seen large aircrafts carrying external fuel tanks.
