All I know is I'm sick of hearing how Boeing keeps using the same 30 year old designs. That is totally untrue. If Boeing keeps using the same design, then Airbus is equally guilty.
Take for instance the 747. People say that it is a 30 year old design, but it isn't. It has a stretched upper deck, glass cockpit, new avionics, new interior, new wings, new engines, longer range, etc., etc.
What is the A340? Why, it's just a stretched A300 with new wings, engines, avionics, and NOT A NEW INTERIOR btw. So, for all you Boeing bashers......take a look at your own Airbus. Not that I'm trying to start a war here, but I'm sick of people making this claim, especially when it's not true. The 747NG, 737NG, are totally different from the old ones.
It's like a Mercedes. Think about it. The SL 500, (the two door high-end convertible), hasn't changed body styles in over 10 years. However, there are certain tweeks that are different about the car that make it new, innovative, and fresh, and just plain better. So, just because the outside may look the same, it is indeed a new an innovative design. The fuselage may stay the same on the outside, but it's what's underneath the hood that counts.
