Mon Dec 18, 2000 8:50 am

I think all of us know that Alitalia has some pretty old 747's. Does anyone know if they have placed orders for any aircraft? Or what a/c they are cosidering?
Thanks in advance, I need this info!!!!!  lol

At first Alitalia order 5 747-400, but they change the order to 777-200, I don't know how many.

AZ converted the order of 5 747-400s to 6 777-200ERs.

The airline also has options on 6 777-300ERs and 6 777 'rolling options.'

What do you mean by the topic '7 or 3?'

Alitalia ordered 6 B777-200s in November, but they will replaceing the MD-11s, not the 747 classics.

after suspending flights to Australia, surely they would have significant extra 747 capacity. Where is Alitalia using this extra capacity?? Are they being retired?

Jim is incorrect. The 777s will indeed serve as replacements for 6 of the 8 742s. More are on option to replace the remaining 747s, and EVENTUALLY, the MD11s.

As far as I remember, their Australia flights were operated by a KLM 747, so it would actually be KLM who is left with the extra capacity.
