This morning I read in my local paper "The West Australian" an article about the super jumbo A380. When was it named A380? I was expecting it to become the A350. And most customers (Singapore Airlines, Qantasand Emirates) have chosen Rolls Royce engines I believe. It appears SIA has dumped Pratt Whitney in the last few years with deliveries of B777s, A340-500 and now the A380 with Rolls Royce. Is that saying something?

I don't think there's been an official announcement about the official name change...

Since a few months ago, a friend of mine at UA (supervises onboard services, based in LAX) told me that the aircraft will be named the A380. He hasn't given real valid reasons, just said that UA has been waiting for Airbus to drop the price further before really announcing the deal. A few weeks ago he was saying that it'll be an UA-LH joint putchase.

Just thought I'd brought this up, since that was the source where i first heard about the existence of the A380 name.

If you look at the Airbus site they still only call it A3XX, I think they haven´t changed the name yet (I hope they will)

A380 is the name that Airbus are using internally and have mentioned to the airlines. It wont be used officially until the program is finally given the production go ahead. Or knowing Airbus they could come up with something different, but i havent heard any other names mentioned.
