Airbus 318

Tue Dec 19, 2000 12:43 pm

I was just looking at the proposed statistics for the new Airbus 318 on Airbuses home page. They are planning for this plane to be 41 feet high. I think I saw that the 319/320s are 39 feet tall. Do any of you think this is going to be one wierd looking plane when viewed from the ground taxing around? Big tall landing gear and wheels on such a small body? I've always thought the A319/320 were a little on the tall side for narrowbody can't imagine the 318!

I do think the height is in the tail- note the 747SP had a taller tail than the standard 747. I do believe that you need a taller tail on shrunken aircraft models to improve stability.

The height is in the fin, simplly because the moment (maultiplication of distance from centre of yaw and force applied) needs to be kept the same, and as the tail is closer to the centre of yaw, it needs to be bigger so it will exert more force.
