Virgin's Eastbound Transatlantic Day Flight

Wed Dec 20, 2000 7:24 am

On December 30, I am taking Virign Atlantic from JFK to LHR in Premium Economy. The flight is VS 026, which is the day flight leaving at 8:25 AM and getting into LHR at 8:05 PM.

Does anyone know what the meal service is on this flight (or on other day time flight going to Europe)?

I assume that it will either be a full breakfast and a dinner snack, or a breakfast snack and a full dinner.

Also, and this is specific to Virgin Atlantic. Do they ever offer any special upgrade fare from Premium Economy to Upper Class on the day of departure? I would do it if the price were right.

Thanks!

I flew the inaugural in 1999. It is an A340-300. The meal service is a main meal and a light one before
landing. I recall it being a real meal, and not brunch
and a sandwich with fruit and cookie before landing,
but this was in economy. There is also an ice-cream
service mid-flight.

It's a nice flight to take and Virgin have scheduled
it ahead of the competition. It is the first to arrive
in London of the morning flights from JFK, which
BA, UA, and AA operate.

Enjoy.

I remember non reving on virgin too and from london going over was BOS-LGW and back was LHR-JFK both times premium econ. was oversold and pax were moved up to upper class. Since anyone that pays the full fare coach is guarnteed a prem. econonmy seat, there can be alot of people. Unfortauntly for me I endedup riding in regualar economy, but the service there was still awsome. They offered me the courtsey of a meal from up front but I turned it down (wish i didnt) i was planing on going to sleep but got into the nintendo game and couldnt put it down. since there was no prem. econonmy/upper class seats in the end they maanged to get me an exit row with extra leg room in an isle with no one next to me (other then not having the recline of a preamium seat, i was in heaven)

Virgin used to have a "day of flight" purchased upgrade from Economy to Premium Economy, which was GBP 200 the time I used it. They might still have such a thing, and for PE to UC. Try asking. Although GBP 200 may sound like a lot, it was still less than the published Premium Economy fare if I had booked in advance.

Thanks everyone for responding. It is nice to know there are always people in this forum who have answers to all my questions!

Last August, I was upgraded to UC from PE going from LHR to ORD. it was great and I felt very lucky. Of course, it spoiled me and now I want it all the time!

200 GBP would be a steal for an upgrade to UC. With the current exchange rate, that is something like 180 USD. I would do that in a second.

I am assuming that the flight will not be too full since it is a day flight on a Saturday, which leads me to think they will not be upgrading anyone. But, I would pay up to USD 500 for the opportunity.

Thanks again!
