Why Lh Still Have 742s?

Thu Dec 21, 2000 9:08 pm

Hi again,
if you look at the age of the Lufthansa-fleet, most planes will be quiet young (under 10 years), but they still have these more than 20 year old 747-200. (some are 23 years old).
I like that, but why didn`t LH replace that planes??
Are they modified in some way (new engines??) so they have a good performance? Is the size so perfect to LH?
Or will they all replaced in a few years by A340s? (which I don`t hope).
Bye,
MD 11

They are still in pretty good shape but they'll be replaced by 10 A340-600 from 2002 on.

I think they are still making profit with this planes. Why should you sell planes that make profit.

I don't think they will be gone anytime soon. They will still be around for at least 5 years.

The A 340-600 is not a true replacement for the B 747-200s. Besides, these 747-200s are making profit.

Mind explaining to be why the A340-600 isn't a true 747-200 replacement??

TK, the 747-200 have a little more passenger-capacity than the 340-600.
On the other hand, the 340-600 will have more range.
I hope, LH buys the 340-600 only in addition to the 742, not as replacement for them.

ALL LH B747-200's will gradually be replaced by the A340-600.
