TWA Will Never Fly To Asia?

Sat Dec 23, 2000 5:07 pm

From what I have heard, TWA does not and will not be flying to Asia anymore. Is that true?

Wil TWA fly to HK one day?

TWA will not fly to Asia anytime soon- they were always focused on flights over the Atlantic. They're even pulling out Europe now.
I hope to see TWA flying all corners of the globe- but I'm not holding my breath.

Nah.....They don't have the planes (I don't believe all
the hype about a 777 order either). TWA will surely
be posting heavy losses again. Besides, I doubt there
is sufficient traffic to warrant STL-NRT services?

Acvitale, weren't you promising us a big order from
TWA for 777's or 767-400's? I've stopped holding my
breath. Gotta catch my CO flight now.

I see TWA trying to build up San Juan right now. They will probably code share to Asia, but as far as actually flying there, I think donkeys would fly before that happened.

Another way this question could be framed is.Does TWA still have any dormant authorities to Asia?

Back in the late 60's TWA flew RTW flights also, via Tokyo,HK, and Bombay??

Any TW hands have any info?

Hong Kong, Bangock (spelling?), and Tokyo were all served in the 60's as well as Guam. Iti s my understanding that TWA gave up those rights and in return, Pan Am gave up most of its rights in Paris. This helped them both since they could now eliminate some competition. Bombay as well as Kuwait City were served in the 80's, but were dropped.

I'd like to see TWA in Asia again...
TWA has code-shares with ANA(All Nippon Airways) Since it is for the USPS(US Postal Service), are they codesharing with NCA(Nippon Cargo)? Or is it for passenger flights?

Thanks VH & Cody..I now remember the PAris deal.
In a box somewhere I Have some old timetables (TW & others) that depicted the RTW flights. Have to try and find them sometime.
Thanks!

As said TWA codeshares with ANA for postal services only, not pax.

TWA has for some time now been rhumored to want to open up STL-NRT, however I don't believe any of their planes, including ETOPS 767-200 could make it. If this supposed widebody order includes 777-200, TWA would be able to run the service. I think they have the authority but not the slots. Once the new runway at NRT is completed, that problem may be alleviated.

Technically, TWA flies to Asia with daily service from JFK-TLV and CAI-RUH.

In the Middle East (Asia), TW codeshares with Kuwait Airways and Royal Jordanian.

TWA holds authorities for NRT 7 weekly, BOM, DEL, CCU 7 weekly each.

The NRT authority is expected to occur after the widebody order. It has been delayed but should occur soon.

See the other TWA thread for more details
