British Airways 747-136s Where Are They Now?

Wed Dec 27, 2000 2:00 pm

I was wondering where British Airways' 747-136s ended up. I know that 15 of the 16 were sold to AAR and one went back to its lessor. My question is, how many of them are still flying and for who? In particular where is G-AWNE?

Yeah yeah! That's something I wanted to ask for long.

Can anyone tell us on this?

By the way, what does AAR stand for?

They have all been either scrapped or parked/put in storage in Roswell, NM. G-AWNE was ferried to Roswell on Nov. 29, 1999, and is currently in storage.

So what are they going to do with G-AWNE?

G-AWNE will most likely be scrapped in the near future or will be converted into a freighter.

BOAC's original 747-136 G-AWNA was sadly broken up.
For it's last scheduled flight of LHR, BOAC titles were painted on one side.
First Air France 747-128 F-BPVA and Sabena 747-129 OO-SGA were also broken up after spending all their lives with the same airline.

What's the significance of G-AWNE?
There is a good chance that she is one of these beauties awaiting their fate...

From what I have heard, at least one of the 747-136s is now flying for Gulf Falcon. I hope that the other aircraft get a "second chance" at life. Maybe Atlas will convert a few to freighters?

F.Y.I. G-AWNE was important because that was the last and only BA 747-100 I saw at LHR during my trip there.

According to Air Britain news 12/00 3 British airways B747-136 aircraft have been sold to Kabo air in Nigeria they are
G-AWNE c/n19765 to be 5N-RRR
G-AWNF c/n 19766 to be 5N-JJJ
G-AWNP c/n 20952 to be 5N-OOO
As far as I know all 3 aircraft are still at Rosswell at the moment. Can anybody explain why G-BDXD a srs 236B was retired in Dec 1999 with 91,822 hrs on the clock a full 12 month's before any of the other srs 200's.
This aircraft to was ferried to Rosswell, was it scrapped or is it still in store?

I will get you the Registration soon, but one of those BA 741's is parked at ABQ along with a retired Northwest DC9. I believe that the BA 741 is being used by Sandia Labs for tests concerning TWA flight 800.

So Kabo Air and Gulf Falcon will be flying them as Pax aircraft. Right?

I had heard that the Air Gulf Falcon aircraft (G-AWNC) has been ferried to Maaschtricht this summer for scrapping. Very sad as it was the very first B747 I ever saw way back in 1970 on a BOAC ( remember them?) demonstration flight into Manchester.

Gulf Falcon still has one B747-136, the former G-BBPU (cn 20953), which has gone through a couple of registrations since acquired : first P4-GFB, then 3C-GFB. Could be 5Y-GFB by now, as the airline seems to have settled on Kenya as a country of registration after experimenting with Aruba (P4), Equatorial Guinea (3C) and Swaziland (3D).

Their other B747-136, the former G-AWNC, is reported to be at Marana, AZ (MZJ) for scrapping (Maastricht was a stopover on its final ferry flight). This one was wearing 3D-GFA (ex P4-GFA) when last seen.

I seem to remember reading somewhere that they'd acquired another B747-136 to replace the scrapped one, but cannot confirm that.
