Air Force One

Thu Dec 28, 2000 4:03 pm

I'm sure several of us have seen the movie "Air Force One" with Harrison Ford, where he is President and Air Force One is hijacked. My question is, do you think any of that stuff is real, like the weapons vault and the escape pod? Just curious.

There is no escape pod on AFO, I saw a show about it and they said there was NO escape pod. I do there is a weapons vault on the plane though.

Yep, I agree with you on the subject of weapons vault. It makes sense that there would be one, eh?

I saw the documentary too. On A&E or Discovery, can't remember which. Very interesting on how they converted the Aircraft & on the different planes used throughout the years. Check it out if you have a chance. Weapons vault? Definitely think so!!

Unless you're the president or at least a technicial of Air Force One you can't know what this a/c has and hasn't.What made me most impression, among many things in this movie, is if a B747 has the ability of refueling during flight.I know you'll answer that it's been modified but I don't think this can be done in a B747.By the way I hate this movie.

Yes, Air Force One and the E-4's can refuel in mid-flight. Not stock 747's. What, it was a good movie! LOL

Boeing's Site.......

The VC-25A can be refueled inflight and can withstand a nuclear pulse, this is all coming from the Boeing site. The aircraft has a cruise speed of Mach .925, but can most likely in emergencies go above. Take a look on there site.....a $150 Million dollar aircraft doesn't cost $500 Million for nothing.

$500 Million is all the US spent on AF1? I thought the project cost somewhere in the neighborhood of $2 Billion...
