Its a very nice airport. Main terminal is airy. Lots of gate space and not many delays.

Check out the bookstore there. Great aviation section with rare books.

Along with a bookstore, there is a Harley Davidson store being that Milwaukee is the world headquarters of Harley.

Good viewing from the gate pier at the end with the runway and main taxiway in front of you. Lots of narrow body equipment, very little wide body equipment.

Yep all the time. Quick and easy, especially for TWA. 5 minutes checking to gate. Pretty good views of the ramp from the main common area.

The only widebodies I saw were a Northwest DC10, a Sun Country DC10 and and Evergreen Int'l 747-100. Other than that, alot of DC9s, MD80s and RJs. Just a handful of 737s, A320s and I think Northwest runs a 757 in there too.

The only time I landed there was in a jam-packed United 747-400 from San Francisco to Chicago 2 summers ago. T-storms closed ORD and we landed at Milwaukee...along with three million other planes. They parked us over by the Air Guard apron at 7:30pm. It took us till MIDNIGHT before we crawled over to the refueling truck, got our fuel together with a Lufthansa A340. Then we and the 340 took off together and flew down the lake at low altitude, landing pretty much one after the other at like 1am.

i worked for signature flight support at mke for a little over two years. it was a lot of fun! the thing i liked about mke was that it is a smaller int'l airport but because it's so close to ord, it still does get some fun equipment in every once in a while. i was working the night that chrisnh was there and i saw those two planes takeoff - my supervisor and i were topping-off our fuel tanker at the fuel farm and we had a "moment of silence" when the 744 and a340 took off because that is such a rare sight! hey chrisnh - are you sure that they didn't have you guys parked up by the freight ramp?

MKE is user friendly.

I'll sure miss all those 25L approaches over the lake and the Ladish smokestack.

BTW, anyone know the story on that old Viscount parked on the northeast end????

i'm pretty sure it was the same night...i don't think it's that often of an occurence that mke would have a united 744 and a lufthansa a340 parked in such close proximity for a few hours after diverting from ord. oh well, i saw it happen once and it might've happened a little while before i started working there!!

hey capt. -

are you leaving mee-wee? as far as that viscount on the northeast end goes, from what i understand, the mke fire dept. uses that for training. they get a bunch of jet fuel, light it up and race over there to put it out. i never saw it, this is just what i heard.

As near as I can tell, they had us for a LONG time over at the ANG ramps...there were so many planes there, that it was like a chess game getting the planes all positioned. It was dark soon after we landed, and I'm not familiar with MKE...so I'm not entirely sure. It might have been the fuel farm we were at though.

the 744 and a340 that i saw on "the night in question" were parked on an extension ramp that comes off of taxiway alpha. it's between turnoff's alpha-4 and alpha-5; we used to call it the penalty box because that was the first place that extra aircraft were put - kinda like an "overflow lot" for the freight ramp! if this was the same night, you guys were parked in the penalty box! there was no way that you were parked at the fuel farm. what i meant was that we watched your 744 and the a340 take-off while we were at the fuel farm!
