Bye, Bye Sabre; Hello Excel!

Tue Jan 02, 2001 1:54 am

Hi Everyone,

I know that Sabre Airways is to become Excel Airways but that's close to all I know on the subject other than the addition of some ex-Britannia B762s.

Just afew questions:
-When will we see a/c painted in the new livery?
-How many B762s are Excel going to have?
-When are they due to join the fleet?
-How many B738s will Excel have/how many do Sabre have?
-Are B762s and B738s going to be the only a/c types in the fleet?
-Will Excel fly to any new destinations?

Cheers & Happy New Year,
Jamie.

Hi,

This may answer some of your questions:
As from May 2001 Sabre Airways will no longer exist.

Libra Holidays Group, the largest independent tour operator in the UK, has
acquired a majority shareholding in the Gatwick-based independent charter
airline, Sabre Airways.

On the acquisition, which gives Libra a 67% share of Sabre, Eamonn Mullaney
became Chairman and Chief Executive. The airline founder Keith Newnham, who
retains a 33% share, will continue as Managing Director until 31st December
2000, when Jonathan Bousfield and Steve Tomlinson succeed him as joint
Managing Directors.
The Investment in the new airline is part of Libra's strategy to serve the
independent travel market as well as it's own in-house tour operators.

Under this new ownership structure, the airline will undergo a major
programme of rebranding with the new look airline scheduled to start
services in May 2001 under the name Excel Airways.

Excel Airways will increase it's fleet of Boeing 737-800 aircraft to five
in summer 2001 and will operate the UK's most modern charter fleet. In
addition, Air Atlanta will operate three Boeing 767-200 aircraft during the
summer season on behalf of Excel Airways.

The information contained above came from a press release obtained from
Sabre Airways Operations at Gatwick.

best wishes,
Marcel
