AA pulled the 727s out of ORD several months ago. As you probably know, Chicago's airports are plagued by neighbors who could best be described as "Noise Nazis".

CO did much the same with their 727s and DC-9s as they were phased out during 1998-99. EWR was the first to lose them, then CLE. Noise has never been a big issue here in Houston due to the fact that enough land was acquired when IAH was built to create a buffer around the airport. DFW is designed in a similar manner.

I read on an earlier post that they are mainly based out of Miami.

Thanks guys........ya know, if these people are dumb enough to build or buy a house by an airport than they have no right to complain........unless they were there before the airport but in ORD's case i doubt that is the case!

The 727's are based out of MIA & DFW and flown mostly to airports where some buffer land is around it. Better catch a flight on one soon as they have about 2 yrs left in service with AA.

Highliner is right, these people must have their head up their A-- .ORD has been there for over 40 years as many other airports. They don't see the planes when they buy the house??Come on...It amazes me these people get local Governments then to buy or "soundproof" their homes at the taxpayers expense. What a deal.Only in America!

I miss them, I'm glad United hasn't gotten rid of them yet......it's sad to see them disappearing from ORD's terminals but all good things must come to an end.

Yeah they are using some of their 727 to serve cities in Mexico like Monterrey. Our airport is like 15 miles away of the city so sound is not a problem. By the way, when are going to be retired?

I think we will see more 722's from AA and UA retired on a fairly fast clip as AA gets more 738's and UA gets more A320's. So hurry up to fly one because the 722 might be put on an accelerated retirement schedule!

There are still quite a few AA 727 flights out of MCI to DFW. UA flies 727's out of MCI to ORD and DEN.

I flew an AA 727 from TUL to DFW during Thanksgiving weekend. Don't know where the plane went after DFW, but I presumed it was either Miami or somwhere in Mexico.

I miss them too.

Just took a quick glance at the Jan.OAG, Most AA 727's from DFW are to cities with airports further out or in a more industrial area(s),such as MCI,MSY,RDU, PHL, and the Mexican cities, etc.

I think Ray is right, probably see an unannounced acceleration of the retirement of the 727 due to slowing economy and still high jet-A prices.

AA uses their 727's mostly on their Caribbean routes. Seems that they will be using them forever to service these routes.

Yes, that's right. American no longer flies 727's out of ORD, neither out of LGA. They are based in DFW and MIA. This means that wherever you see an American 727 today, it comes from or goes to either MIA or DFW. It it obvious that the final 727 flight at American will end in either DFW or MIA. I read in the Sivlerbird book that American will retire its last 727 end of 2003, the DC-10's are gone already. I absolutely agree with Tan flyr, better fly on a 727 now before it's too late!

Without a doubt, the 727 is the best. At MCI, we still have AA, DL, UA, and NW 727's. Every now and then, we have an American Trans Air and Sun Country 727 in for a charter flight.
