C/N - What Does That Mean?

Thu Jan 04, 2001 2:46 pm

In several books of aviation which I have read the pictures have captions which detail the type of the plane (eg 737-4Y0) and the c/n listed in brackets. Could anybody tell me what does c/n stand for, what is its significance and how is it assigned?

Thank you very much in advance.

c/n is the construction number - basically a serial number for the aircraft.
