Will Fedex Go For The A 380F?

Fri Jan 05, 2001 3:20 pm

From what I have, there are rumours about Fedex going for 10 A 380F. What do you guys think? Do you guys think it is something true?

I highly doubt it as the B 747X Stretch is better for Cargo Transportation. I am not saying that because I am a Boeing fan but I just don't think Fedex is going to buy this product.

What do you guys think?

According to the Wall Street Journal this will happen: Fedex is going to order up to 10 A380Fs.

United Airline, would you mind elaborating exactly how 747X is "better for Cargo Transportation"? One way or another, we'll apparently soon get FedEx's expert opinion in the matter.

If you continue posting the way you do, don't be too surprised if you one day find your account removed.

While not defending the lack of facts presented to back up his/her opinion, you haven't either. I don't see "Administrator" in your profile.

Federal is quite happy with their fleet of A300's, MD10's +11's and fast disappearing 727's.The MD11 is regarded as a very cost efficent long range freighter.Remember, Fed Ex got rid of the 747's they got when they purchased Flying Tigers.
Yes, I actually *do* work for an airline, how about you?

Which facts are you referring to? I made no claim of any plane being better than another in any role, unlike the original poster. In fact all I inferred was that Fedex, being a cargo carrier, would likely know what a good cargo plane ought to look like.

If you mean the warning of account deletion, it was based merely on observing accounts get deleted for somewhat similar behaviour in the past.

I was also perplexed when I saw the responses to Joni's post. Joni hasn't made any claims or assertions which require backing up by facts. He was simply questioning the assuption made by United Airline that the 747X stretch is better for cargo.

However, the fact is that the upward hinging door of the 747 is a clear advantage for cargo carriers.

I'm not surprised that FedEx will buy the A380F.

The reason is simple: their primary service of delivering packages up to circa 70 kg. in weight demands a plane with LOTS of interior cargo space. And what FedEx will need to order is a loader that can lift pallets all the way up to the second deck level of the A380F.

Do not be surprised that the FedEx A380F become regular visitors to OAK, where FedEx has a MAJOR cargo base.
