Does anyone if Rolls Royce, Pratt and Whitney, or GE are making an engine for the A380? How much thrust will it have? Anyone know the size of the engine?

Rolls-Royce is building the Trent 900, which will be rated at 68,000 to 73,000 lb. of thrust.

General Electric and Pratt & Whitney have formed a collaboration called Engine Alliance that will build the GP7000 series of engines also for this plane, and again the thrust ratings will be 68,000 to 73,000 lb. of thrust.

Only 73,000? That's not much more than the current 744 engine, but it is much larger and A LOT heavier, will this thing be underpowerd?

Actually, the 747-400's engines are usually rated at 56,000 lb. thrust--a lot lower than some people think.

Actually, I thinkk it is 57,000-61,000 which is quit a bit more than the A340, which is 33,000??? But I wonder about the power of the A380 if the engines produce 73,000.

Boeing 747-400 - do you really think Airbus would design an aircraft with an engine specification that means it doesn't leave the ground? I think your user name shows where you're coming from.

Looked a little underpowered, that would make Airbus efficient, less of fuel. I think 1.3x of current 744 would be enough.
