UAL Giving Up To Much? (details)

Tue Jan 09, 2001 11:12 am

From planebusiness.com, user "El Lobo":

"The details of the AMR/TWA deal insures no fragmentation of USAirways. United will give up just 3 gates at DCA, 4 gates at BOS,
and 5 gates plus 40 slots at LGA. AMR also gets half the shuttle and 49% of DCAir. This is about what was expected in concessions although there could be more coming as the DOJ has not officially signed off on the new deal. The only surprise was the sale of half of the shuttle to AMR."

Also, how will UAL replace the 86 U F100s, Maddogs, and RR 752s being sold to AA? Will TWAs A320X pass on to UA? Will TWA sell its 27 PW 752s to UA, err rather transfer the leases? What will happen to TW's PW powered 767s-- will those go to UA as well?

This is --certainly-- something that can be discussed on and on.

Jim Goodwin must have rocks in his head to make that kind of arrangement with AA on the shuttle. He just ensured Delta Shuttle's long term success. Thank you, Mr. Goodwin.

I want to say this about Shuttle:

What UA wanted from the USA merger is US Airways Shuttle. They wanted that segmant flying between Boston, New York and Washington. Now, with the new AA merger, UA looses half of its wanted Shuttle operations. I guess half is better thn none, but this new merger with AA and TWA hurts United in the long run.

Now on the other hand, if the AA-TWA merger goes through, I dont see any reason why the government wouldn't oppose United's buy-out. UA would still get USA's hubs, but half of shuttle.

No one was thinking about DL when everything was given up, correct? Well, we got the better part of everything, thanks.

Are you sure Delta763pilot? We may be in a good position in the NYC-WAS-BOS market... but otherwise we're pretty much left out in the cold. That should be plain to you if you're a pilot.

yeah... I thought that was kinda cool...

Still waiting for Delta763pilot's response. I'm interested to hear him defend his statement..... as well as explain how he's into the senior equipment at such a tender age.
