Newcastle Or Teeside

Wed Jan 10, 2001 12:49 am

Which of these airports would you prefer to fly from and why? Saying that you live in the middle of the two? I would rather fly from NCL, which I mainly do anyway, because its busier, bigger and more spacious. I feel that Teeside is rather cramped. Another thing , why do Ryanair fly to MME rather than NCL? I think they should fly to NCL instead. Also what a/c do BD use on the MME-LHR route?

Ryanair probably fly to MME due to cheaper landing and passenger fees, that's why EasyJet chose Liverpool as it's northern base. BD will use either 737s or A320, they use a 735 and F70 from LBA, although this has been changed to a larger a/c recently due to the railway problems.

Teeside is more for Darlington and Middlesborough. However, I would guess quite a lot of people use NCL for some flights. Sunderland is closer to NCL.

BD use 737-500 and F100 on the MME-LHR service.
If you did a search on 'British Midland' with the Keyword 'Teesside', I've got a few photos on the site of some of the aircraft used.
In answer to your question I'd rather fly from NCL even though MME is my 'local' airport (about 20m away) purely because it is busier, though I would love to see MME get some more traffic.

To be honest, I think most pax airlines will go to NCL and cargo to MME. Isn't there a new cargo bit being built at MME?

The new cargo terminal is supposed to be on the south side of the airport but I'm not sure the final go-ahead has been given yet.

To be honest, I have never visited Teeside airport (allthough I have been to Teeside), but if there is less traffic there then at NCL, I'd prefer Newcastle.

Oh, one more thing. Is there little traffic at NCL? I just remembered that when i was there the last time, there could be 20-30 minutes between each take-off or landing. So is NCL less trafficated then I thought, or was I just there on a "bad" day?

NCL is a quiet airport. There can be busy times and there can be quiet times. When its quiet, the airport is almost utterly deserted, especially on a winter saturday. Busiest time is probably on a summer saturday at about 12:20

Yeah all the flights from Palma come in that time and I think a BY 767 goes to Orlando round that time. Not to mention the scheds in that time. I was there once at that time and all the stands were occupied so some a/c had to use remote stands.
