Full Moon=more Screaming Passengers...

Thu Jan 11, 2001 3:35 am

Hello everyone!
God I'm exhausted, having just survived another full moon in the travel industry... Have you ever noticed the link between the full moon and the increase in the number of seriously stressed passengers, not to mention the down-right awful ones...
My hear is still buzzing from listening to a lunatic (the moon=la lune) screaming because another carrier would not endorse his free mileage ticket...
God help us until the next one...

I think this is nothing more than pandering a bunch of hocus-pocus to a bunch of people who panic if a black cat walks in front of them.
Same reason you won't find a gate #13 in a terminal, or a flight #13 in any timetable, or any high rise building without a 13th floor.
I don't buy it. I think it's a bunch of crap.
I will gladly take a red eye during a full moon on flight #13, leaving gate #13, with my black cat in his kitty carrier under my seat-after I walked under a ladder and stepped on the cracks of the sidewalk....
And I will still sleep like a baby.

Aaer,

You're right. The full moon does SOMETHING to people. I always assumed it had something to do with the tides (humans are almost all H2O, after all...).

Don't think of it as a trial-by-fire, though--just think of all the great stories you can tell at parties. Of course, no one will EVER believe them!

Can someone please explain to me how the way a huge chunk of rock, 240,000 miles away is lit by the sun, can have some kind of tangible influence on people? I think it's all psychosomatic...in laymens terms...."all in their head"(which I might add is probably already damaged in some way if they actually fall for these fairy tales).
It's a placebo effect for Gods sake!!!!!

the only thing I can see having any effecy on people are hurricanes.....because the low barometric pressure on hurricanes does something to peoples digestive system, making unstable....and perhaps producing more gas-or constipation....
And I don't even know if THAT'S true, as I've never been in a hurricane.

Matt-

I dunno what the full moon does to people to cause an increase in boneheaded activity, (it could very well be psychosomatic as you theorized) but the effect is quite real. Just ask any law-enforcement or emergency medical professional for their full-moon stories.

Matt
I can't recall mentioning being superstitious at any stage. Black cats, Friday 13th and horoscopes leave me cold... In a couple of years of dealing with school kids and passengers, I have noticed that it DOES have an effect on people's behaviour.
And I've come to realize that it has an effect on me too (after all I'm only human.... oh, and by the way, not a werewolf), as I might not display quite as much patience as I usually would when people come up with the most surreal demands.
And I would no say that it is psychosomatic either. This time around I checked the moon phase because of people's behaviour, not the other way around (it's been very overcast around here, I could not spot a witch on her broom 200 yards away...)
