SIA Gigatop?

Sun Jan 14, 2001 8:30 am

Saw the Jan 2 -8, 2001 edition of FI. They have a scheme of SIA's A380. And they call it GIGATOP, with 9V-GJB reg. on it.

Will SIA's A380 call GIGATOP?

I don't know, but a lot of us seems to think that Gigatop sounds natural, because "giga-" is one step up from "mega".

I wouldn't be surprised if SIA uses Gigatop or Teratop

Yes I bought the sane issue. I dreamt about the word Giga so I think Giga should be the next one and as the person above me who I can't remember said, it's a natural step from Megatop

Why does it have to still have the "Top" in the name?? Its not just a hump up front like a 747, its got a whole new deck. So in my opinion they wont carry on the "Top" into the A380. Why? Whole new aicraft, and it has a complete top deck not just a hump.

Just my opinion

I think SIA would adopt a much artistic name (something to do with their Singapore girls) instead of a boring computer hard disk like name. Well, this was being proven with their A340 (Celestar) and B777 (Jubilee).

Hmm. But the A380 isn't artisitc that's the point. The A340 and 777 signify elegant names and swishy-swoshy. But the 747 is bulky hence Top, and the A380, well that's just a beautiful fat elephant. So an artistic name wouldn't really fit.
