A Sad Moment

I have just visited sasflightops.com to check out the reg on a DC9-41 i flew last year, just to find out that it had been retired in OCT 00.
After studying the page, i became very very sad. SAS had retired all of their Dc9-21 by end of 00, most of their -41 were retired or due to be retired in 01. And the all theri DC9-81 were delivered back to the leasing company.
The only nice thing i descovered was th a few of the -41 will be in SAS's fleet until March 2003

I was wondering what you think about this.
I think it's very sad that SAS are retiring on of the skies greatest workhorse. (have been with sas since 1969, so why couldn't the be with sas for more yeras to come?)

Retireing an old aircraft is more cost effective than paying famlies compensation for the loss of life in the event of a crash. It's days are past, room needs to be made for the new aircraft.

They are getting old and pax prefer to fly 737s cos they are quieter. It will be a sad day when they are all retired. Whats happening to their MD82/83/87 a/c?

1: why do you think that a DC9 wuill crach more than a 737 or a320 ?

2: Th DC9 is one of teh most comfy short haul a/c, and from what i have herd, the SK 737 are quite cramped.

3: There are no retiering date for th MD80's so I suspect them to be with sas for the next 10 yeras

1.I know there isn't owt to worry about on DC9, but when regular pax have a choice of old a/c or new a/c Im sure they would go new a/c every time.
2.Not heard that, I thought their 737-600 is quite comfortable when I flew MAN-CPH last year.
3.Yeah, I guess so. They aren't that old.
