Who Here Likes WN's New Colors?

Thu Jan 18, 2001 4:25 am

Given that Southwest's new colors are so unpopular among airliners.net members here, I wonder if it's the case within the general public? I hope not, really. But Sun Country's livery seems to be favoured, and I can't argue with that - I like that livery, too.

I'm not afraid to admit that I'm in the minority who likes Southwest's new colors. If there's anybody here in airliners.net who likes WN's colors, don't be afraid either to post your views here!

I like it alot better than DL's scheme. Atleast it doesn't look plain and empty on the fusalage like on DL's 777. The new delta Scheme looks great on a narrow body like a 737-800 but looks plain and boring on a 777. Same thing like I said awhile back about PAN AM when they went with the billboard logo. The jumbo PAN AM looked great on their 727-200 and PA 2's 737-400 right before they had gone under in 1998 but looked plain and boring especially with too much white space on their 747 fleet in the 1980s and early 1990s.

It's an improvement from the old scheme, which looked too drab in my opinion.

I didn't like the small pictures in the press release, but the bigger pictures on the SWA web site actually looked pretty good.

I like it too. If only we can see it in Canada though. I like the fact that there's no white--anywhere! Red and blue go together. The tan colour, well, it's better than making it grey or white. And the orange at the tail makes it look like the old paint job a bit. It's pretty.

I love it! Its a lot better than that Terdwest colours they had before!! I think the blue adds a nice touch instead of that baby crap brown colour!

The new livery is a vast improvement.
The old scheme couldn't have been more Seventies - very dated and tired looking, the combination of colours was awful. The new scheme has a fresh, bright look which the old one just didn't have.

I love the new paint! The old one was so drab, and desert colors, like their home. The new one adds lots of character and boldness to one of the best airlines flying!! Two thumbs up.

Well, at first I thought it was awful. But after seeing a DECENT picture of it, it's actually pretty good. The bottom border between the blue and the red section is not straight- it doesn't run parallel to the bottom of the belly. Rather, it's curved and swept. I think it is okay. I would give it a b-.

The new leather seats are, however, hideous. Blue and Yellow? Uh, no thanks. Maybe they are comfortable, and that might make up for their 'only a mother could love' looks. And maybe they look better in person.

Did you also know that they now have brushed aluminum trim pieces? That might be interesting...

Everything looks great!

The new scheme and the seats!

Those seats remind me of the color of some sports car seats! Great improvement! Beautiful touch adding the blue (my favourite color!)..

I also like it... When I heared they got a new scheme I feared for yet another white fuselage approach, but it looks colourful and a bit more classy than the hippie seventies orange/red.

Hey all,

I like it. It's nice to see planes with little or no white on them, only color.
The blue looks classy with the red. I think it is a lot better than the old scheme, that looked like a scheme from the 60's. "Baby crap" that's good!!

I am starting to like it better after seeing the larger picture. However I would like to see it in person to make my final judgement. I do have to say the blue is much better then that brown color but I think it looks more obvious that there is no title on the fusulage with the darker color which makes it look incomplete to me. I'm sure they could have done something a lot better

I HATE it! Honestly, in the past decade, pretty much every swingin' airline in the world (with the exceptions of QF, JAL, AF, AA) has changed their livery, mostly for the better (then again, I love Deltaflot.) Honestly, WN has kept theirs, and I like it. I don't think that Blue and Orange go well together, so I hate it. What's next, they'll be the official airline of the New York Knicks (looks just like their colors). Oh well.

Personally I think it's great. It looks fine to my eye, I quite like it. And it's very similar to their well-recognized old livery, so while it maintains the value of their existing brand-image, it gets rid of the ugliness that went along with it. In terms of marketing it's very good- it keeps the good things that went along with the old livery, while getting rid of the bad aspects. What better could you ask for?

My major gripe with the new WN livery is the fact that the blue is a very garish shade and definitely conflicts with the other colors of the plane. Small wonder why it looks a bit repulsive.

If you look at the new SY scheme, note that they carefully chose the colors so they are all complimentary colors and is pleasing to look at. Now THAT is a livery we'd be all proud of.

It's absolutely horrible. The old livery was getting tired, but they could have gone for something a little better.
Silver and red with a tough of blue would have been an
OK alternative.

This livery is really ugly.

I think it looks great, except for the fact that it does seem a bit more plain above the windows on the forward fuselage. I think that once people begin to see it in person, they will warm up to it (just like Delta).

Also, it is my opinion that the interior doesn't look that bad, especially in the picture on the SWA website. I am probably one of the very few on this forum that does like it.

My wife calls SW airplanes with the current paint job "hot dogs" (for obvious reasons). When I showed her the new paint job she said, "it looks like a royal blue, red and orange airplane". I couldn't have said it better myself.

The new paint job will take some getting used to, but I do like it, and, as was mentioned earlier, at least they didn't go the way of everybody else, and base it around an all white fuselage.

I wonder what the new design at the renovated MDW

I like the new livery (Its rather new colours than new design). Fresh and bright and without white. I hope we´ll see these colours in the future on more interesting aicraft than the somewhat boring 737.

I like the color combination on the exterior a lot, it's a big improvement. But I am not too keen on the interior - the blue and tan color blocked seats don't work for me.

Still glad to see they updated their look, tho. It was time.

I absolutely love the new paint job. It was time for the old 70's scheme to go especially that their route system goes beyond the southwestern reigon. Props to Southwest!

Saw small story in paper today with pix...
First thought was...Now that Jet Blue is here...Is SWA feeling blue too? Are they copying some of their ideas?
Not as into this stuff as many here so just curious...

All the other pics I've seen were either very small, or the picture was taken at a bad angle. This pic was at a good angle, and is great. I noticed how refreshing it looks from the old brown desert look they had, and the wavy cheatline seems to represent them always being different among the airlines. Also, there is barely any white on the plane. Its original. I like it.

To me it looks like the same pattern just with different colors that do not look good at all together. If you want to see a good scheme look at Sun Country's new scheme.

Hey USAirways737......

Had me scared for a second. Thought you were gonna say a good scheme was BWIA or American Airlines. The SWA scheme looks a heck of a lot better than the old one.

I have a poll for this on my website... If anyone wants to vote. So far, its looking good.

Thanks for the pic BH346. I've only seen small versions, and I didn't care for it at first. But it grows on you, and the bigger pic convinces me - it's a keeper.

It was in KC the day BEFORE I saw the "tour" schedule. Folks who have seen it in person say it's VERY nice.

GoeingBoeing hit the nail right on the head. You get used to seeing something after awhile, so when it changes, it's a shock to your senses. But in due time, I will get used to it.
Personally, I think it's sharp but that doesn't change the fact that the day will come that I will be feeling nostalgic for the old colors...perhaps just with the memories associated with them. But that's a whole different story/
