Olympic @ LHR

Thu Jan 18, 2001 6:31 am

On OA's website, they say flights between ATH and LHR will be operated by A340 or B737, but evry time I go to LHR I see 2 A300's, does anyone know y?

It's very simple, they have changed the equipment on this route to meat the passenger quoter and havn't bothered changing the website info.
Correct me if i'm wrong but i'm just guessing by OA's overall running that this is the case!

Same here.
I love it when the A340s come as they park really close to the veiwing area.
My guess is, they just put an A340 on the route when there are too many passengers to fit on a B737 and not enough to fit on an A340. But you probably figured that!

This is going off topic abit but considering Olimpic sometimes use widebodies LHR-ATH, do VS ever do the same?

Cheers,
Jamie.

Your pretty much right dude...OA hasen't updated their website news since like couple of months ago!... Maybe when Cyprus probably buys OA they would change it! and Re-start the 737NG deliveries! Hope everything works out fine..

Hmmmmmmm....here i will have to dissegree with you buddy. Oa is one of the few airliners now that never did and never will change their livery! it would be a disaster for them to change it... And for the interios, well they used to be bad back in the days with the 747s but now OA change it on the A343s and they also upgraded the interiors on the 737/A300s...

The livery is a classic and looks especially well on the A340's and the retired 747's

Recently I travelled with the A340 from JFK to ATH. I have to say that I expected the service to be much worse. However, my overal impression was very good for a state-run airline, with so many problems. However, after the roomy and new 340 I continued my journey with an old 737-200.......
When the new 737's will replace the old -200's OA's fleet will be quite modern and comfortable.

Regards,

I thought Olympic was using their A300-600Rs for the ATH to LHR route?

This is a bit off topic, but anyway I can't understand why "Olympic" is facing financial troubles. I flew with them 5 months ago on Beirut-Athens B737-400 and Athens-Toronto A340-300. Both flights were full to the hilt. My friend who flew olympic to LHR also told me that the aircraft was packed 101%. So if their seat occupancy is almost 100% , so from where the financial problem comes from? A dumb management? Or corruption maybe? I know that the airline is state owned and noone seems to care about the olympic's "health". But why they can't find investors or someone who would purchae the airlie? It will be profitable. I would buy it if I had enough money.

Good luck Olympic.

How funny you're making yourselves (I'm talking to those who blabe OA about its timetable and find the opportunity to blame it in general). It seems like you opened this topic to 'bury' OA.If you take a more carefull look at the timetable and at least listen from those that use OA to ATH-LHR you'll see that it's accurate. For morning and noon flight A300 are normally used. The A340 are used only in high season periods like Christmas,Easter or summer. The 737 are used in night flights to LHR and to all LGK.
About the off topic themes:ATH-LOn route is Olympic's most profitable route in Europe and is always more than 50% often completely full both in passengers and cargo. You can't imagine how much money it earns from such a flight of that kind.If you consider US and AUS you'll reallize that Olympic shouldn't be facing economical problems. These problems has to do with the fact that it's a state owned company in Greece. It's important to mention the words 'in Greece' because the words 'state owned' by themselves is not bad (why BA of the biggest airliners is state owned?).What makes this combination bad is because especially in Greece state owned companies all do 'rousfeti'.But still goes well.Anyway this is a big topic already dealt with a lot.

OA is a very good airline... and it was even better before it was given to the Greek Governemt (state), who has done a poor job of handling it (economically)! but.... I can say that OA has potential to become a big airline....!
In the US, I know that JFK still has flights with OA... but i would really like to see OA come back to OHD!

If their current A340-300s are packed to the max, they should be thinking about ordering the new high capacity RR Trent powered A340-600 for these heavily popular North American routes.
