How is the new Airtran Airways Boeing 737-200? What color are the seats and what is your opinion of the service in Business Class and Coach? You can also share your thoughts on the old Airtran which had only coach.

*New* AirTran Boeing B737-200s? FL isn't buying any more B737-200s. They've got three left, and they only do PFL-MCO, ATL-MCO, and (I believe) ATL-PHL. Those B737s will be gone shortly.

I know several people who've flown them when they did JAX-ATL runs, and they say that FL has really stopped investing in them. Clean interiors, and no duct tape on seats or bulkheads, but clearly old planes waiting to be put out to pasture.

I heard from travelocity that they also do ATL-RSW (Fort Myers, FL) and
ATL-FLL).
I also believe that they have 4, not 3, but not positive on that one.
Do a search, and check out how many reg's the planes have had!!

Amtran727- I'm fairly sure they retired one of them last summer. That makes 3. They may still do a few ATL-Florida runs aside from MCO, but they certainly don't do much anymore. Those old birds are waiting for retirement, and its coming as soon as a few more B717s are brought online.

It's about time. I mean nothing against AirTran, but I personally think that new 717's can't be delivered fast enough. The DC-9s catch fire anytime they are flown on Monday or when the sun is up. Or when the moon is up.

And the 732's offer NO fleet commonality to ANYTHING FL flies.

As a safety issue, I hope all the rest of those 717 deliveries are moved to the remainder of 2001!!!!!!!!

Not likely.

Those 732s were great over the holiday season. They have the most coach, which is great for Florida routes. I got a 70.6% load for an incoming MCO-PHL flight. Too bad they'll be gone soon.

I remember flying on one of those 737-200s when they were up in ALB 5 years ago. They had 1 daily non-stop flight from ALB to MCO whose service was very similar to Southwest where you get a pass and board when your number is read and grab the best available seat.

Airtran does indeed have four 737-200's flying. Although one is currently in "C" check. You will find them flying between MCO, ATL, and PHL. They will occasionaly make up a leg or be substituted in place of a DC9-30 if the additional aircraft is needed.

P.S. B717-200 number 17, reg# N547AT, nose# 717 was delivered on Wednesday and is already on line.

I flew on one of our 737s yesterday, there are four stillin the fleet, apparently the fourth just came out of "C" check because I saw it flying yesterday. It is a great aircraft for MCO-ATL ... lots of people only 8 business seats, i sat in the bulkhead in coach and it was very smooth and quiet. only thing is there is no leg room . I think CoLite was refering to "New Airtran" not new 737s for airtran... The origional airtran had them in all coach config. with the 4th aircraft out of C check, we should ahve two with the old colors and two with the new colors.

They always flew to CAK, but alas no more. They were always jam packed full. They were always clean, and the staff and service were great.

They used to fly them into MDW all the time back when they had the MDW-IAD route. I saw one for the first time in like a year a couple of weeks ago, when one of the new color ones showed up subbing for a DC9

I think (or at least it used to be this way) the interiors of the 737's were mainly blue seats. I vaguely remember palm trees on the bulkheads but I may have imagined this. Can anyone else confirm it? The DC-9's I have seen still have ValuJet's interior. The blue seats with pink waves throughout.

So FL still has 4 B737-200s? I thought there were plans to retire at least one by the end of last year...

What happened?

There is a picture of one sitting in Marana, so at least one left the fleet.

some of the 737s had the sun on the bulkhead.. none of the ones now do .. the seats are navy blue with burgendy dots in them.. not bad looking.... small overhead bins for some reason i dont feel like im in a flying aluminmum can in a 737 even though they have less legroom.. took a 717 back tonight... awsome flight as usual ... only thing the 717 is soo quiet, its almost scary sitting up in row one how quiet it is.

I believe we have plans to bring another 737 back on line this month. I was flying with an F/A last week who is dating a 737 capt. She seemed pretty sure about it.
