What Flight Would This Have Been?

Sun Jan 21, 2001 9:17 am

Ok, here's one for all of you flight trackers...
At approximately 12:15 PM this afternoon, as I was leaving LAX, I looked up in the sky and noticed a contrail. It flew directly overhead. The plane was flying from east to west, with a very slight southwesterly trajectory. It appeared to be a 767 or 777 (it's kind of hard to tell for sure at that altitude without binoculars)....

What was it?
Airline? Likely departure point? Likely destination?

Well looking at Flight Explorer, my guess would be American flight #7. It is a B767-300 and from DFW-OGG and is due in OGG at 5:12pm PST. Five hours from LAX to OGG is just about right.

I would have thought you would often see nonstops to Hawaii from DFW and ATL, if not STL. We sometimes get the DFW and ATL flights up here in Oakland, so seems like you might occasionally get flights from EWR-ORD-STL.

Have you tried listening? They'd be on 119.95, wouldn't they?
